MD16 FT: Getafe 1-3 Villarreal

Villarreal back to winning and scoring ways thanks to a Nihat double and a Santi Cazorla goal.

I read today an article about Nihat, and I saw that his family name is Kahbatchi, which a part of it means a Whore in Arabic

AEK 1-2 Villarreal

Villarreal top their UEFA group. Mavuba with the first then Rivaldo equalised with a freekick and Tomasson got the winner.

Yeah I'd back Villarreal to go through 19/20 of the time.

Gonzalo, Rossi will be back by then so they could possibly be full strength again.

Roig Delighted With No January Business

Quote:

Villarreal president Fernando Roig is celebrating the fact that Villarreal will not be signing anyone in January as he sees it as a huge sign of progress.

The Yellow Submarine supremo believes that the team is playing so well this season that no new faces will be required during the winter transfer window.

Roig hailed the fact that this will be one of the first year's since he took over that the club will be strengthening mid-season and he is delighted.

"The best news is that we are not going to sign anyone because things are working very well," the president explained.

"It is true that we have been busy in previous winter transfer windows, but this year we are not going to be.

"I can assure you that we are not going to sign anyone.

"The only reinforcement we will have will be the return of Gonzalo Rodríguez. That will be the best acquisition that we will make because it will be exciting to see him back."

When Roig took over Villarreal he had to work on a very modest budget and made his first priority winnig promotion to the Spanish top flight, but even he is surprised by how far things have come.

"Year-by-year we have grown, improving the quality of the squad and raising our ambitions," he continued.

"What proves that is when you look at the team photo from Pellegrini's first year and only four of those players are still here.

"When I arrived I 1997 the budget was €3m-per-year, now it is €63m-per-year. Who would have thought that we would have mulitplied it 20 times in ten years?"

Goal.com - Villarreal - Roig Delighted With No January Business

No January signings for Villarreal.

Nice stat that when Roig took over the budget was €3m-per-year, 10 years later it is €63m-per-year. He's overseen a revolution.

Lille Sign Mavuba From Villarreal

Rio Antonio Mavuba has joined Lille Métropole on loan for the rest of the season, after a difficult spell at Villarreal.

The 23-year-old French international midfielder Rio Antonio Mavuba has been loaned by Villarreal to Lille for the remainder of the season.

Mavuba joined The Yellow Submarines from Bordeaux last summer but the move did not work out for him.

He has struggled to settle in Spain, making a mere five league appearances for Villarreal and, as a result, losing his place in the French national side.

Mavuba has not featured for France since earning his sixth cap in a friendly against Austria ten months ago.

He is hoping that his return to the French League will revive his fortunes.

But he will be entering a battle for survival, as Lille, a year on from reaching the last 16 of the Champions League, are now struggling to avoid relegation from Ligue 1.

In contrast, Villarreal are third in the Spain's Primera División, and face Russian champions Zenit St. Petersburg in the Uefa Cup Round of 32 next month.

Suprisingly Manuel Pelligrini has hardly used Rio Mavuba or Diego Lopez, both were big money signings in the summer but they've hardly started under him. Must of not liked what he saw in training.

I put £5 on Villarreal winning the title when they were 20-1. They're only 6 points behind Madrid now and are the in-form side so they've got a chance

Villarreal have won their last 4 games but have a damn tough away game against Sevilla this weekend. Sevilla will be going all out as they want 4th place. Should be a good game.

Sevilla vs Villarreal (Sunday 6pm British time)

Sevilla with a 2-0 win, I only saw the goals, no idea who played better.

Fabiano with a nice right footed strike opened the score, Kanoute, who came from the bench, scored the second from the spot.

Strenghtens Sevilla's 4th place battle but weakens Villarreal's title push. They're now 7 points away from Madrid with 7 games left but to be honest they should be able to win most of the games left looking at the fixtures.

Goal.com - Villarreal - Villarreal To Compete For Oliveira

Villarreal linked with an on-form Oliveira for next season. He's scored 13 goals despite Zaragoza being 18th and if Zara can't stay up or can't hold onto him then he's available for 10m euros which could be a bargain.

Must see Senna goal here. 55 yarder from Senna

Is going straight but then swerves to the right to nestle in the top right.
