Default Matusiak Promises Many Goals For Palermo

The newly purchased Polish striker is confident that he can help the Rosanero achieve their objectives for the current season.
Radoslaw Matusiask was officially presented by Palermo to the press on Monday. A lot is expected from this young Polish player, even though he is still an unknown for many Italian football fans.

"I chose Palermo because I want to play," explained the former GKS Belchatow attacker. "I hope to do so and to give my best. I also want to score, and to score many goals."

Matusiak will inherit the shirt number of Luca Toni, that is the number nine, but he is not scared of such a responsibility as he is looking forward to play for the Sicilian club.

"I'm very happy to have arrived in this beautiful city and in such an important club. It's for this reason that when I learnt about Palermo's interest, I had no doubt in accepting to wear the Rosanero shirt."

The 25-year-old Polish international could make his debut for Palermo next Sunday when the Rosanero face Chievo Verona in the next Serie A match.

Honestly, the first couple games that they won, i was happy for them. I like Di Michelle and Breciano, Corini etc...some really good players...but they became a threat to Roma...And with only 7 points behind....i still can't cheer them on just yet! Even though we have a game in hand!

Plus if nothing else it's nice to see one or two Southern teams up there.

Default Serie A: Palermo - Chievo [18-02-07]

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini doesn't think Palermo will beat Chievo or qualify for the CL.

That's just an embarrassment for a president of a club to say. Talk about killing team morale when it's at a season low. Things can turn around at any time, but saying comments like that, just reduces the chances of the team succeeding. Have faith in your squad. On paper, they should beat Chievo 3-0...I hope Palermo beat Chievo and prove Zamparini wrong. Or that may be Zamparini intentions to motivate his squad....never know!

We've become used to comments like this though, remember earlier in the season he publicly admitted that he wanted Palermo to be knocked out of the UEFA Cup.

Didn't they field a slightly weak lineup as well in the cup games? Why bother playing all year for Uefa, just to get booted out....seems like a waste to me.

Default Simplicio: Chievo Clash Fundamental For Palermo

Following the home defeat against Empoli, the Rosanero cannot risk of losing further points in their quest to finish among the top four teams in Italy and reach the Champions League next season.

Brazilian midfielder Fabio Simplicio is convinced that the match against Chievo Verona will be a very important one for Palermo considering the unexpected lost points against Empoli on Sunday which stopped the Rosanero’s march.

"Against Empoli we lost the match, but not the possibility of going to the Champions League. However, for us Sunday's match against Chievo is fundamental.

"In my opinion, last Sunday we did not play particularly badly, on the contrary, the squad showed that it's doing well.

"It's true that we were defeated, but we had our chances to win the game and also to equalize", reasoned the ex-São Paulo FC and Parma man.

Palermo are currently in third place with 42 points from 23 matches played, 10 points ahead of fourth-placed Empoli.

Yeah, they rested key players in the group games.

They did it because the president wants them to concentrate on Serie A and qualifying for the CL. But still, to want your team to get knocked out is unthinkable.

Default Fontana Asks Team-mates To Be More Humble

The Palermo keeper will be facing his former squad on Sunday as the Rosanero travel to Verona to face Chievo in the 25th matchday of Serie A.

Alberto Fontana believes that Palermo need to get their feet back on the ground in order to find that lost humbleness which has cost them precious points.

The Sicilians have lost what could be vital points on the road this season, beginning with the match against his ex-team Chievo Verona.

"The Verona squad has bigger potential than its league position says. I know how strong they are in the spaces", he explained.

"It will surely be a difficult match for us, but if we will face it with great humbleness, we can win the three points."

The defeat against Empoli gave Fontana some points to think about, but now it's time to put the theorising into practise.

"Now all the teams know us and they will be waiting for us, because achieving a result against Palermo is surely a great result: for us it will surely be more difficult."

K am i missing something here....work hard all season to quality for a European spot, then not play quality players and get eliminated. It can't be all about the money can it???

The UEFA Cup isn't seen as a major competition to a lot of clubs, they want the CL.

Livorno were the same, their president wanted them to eliminated earlier in the season.
