Americans buy Bologna Friday 13 June, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Newly promoted top-flight side Bologna have been bought by an American business syndicate.

The Felsinei secured their place in Serie A next term with a final-day win over Pisa to clinch second spot in the Cadetti.

And now they are looking to build a squad capable of keeping pace amongst the elite, with Sampdoria’s Sergio Volpi becoming their first recruit earlier this week.

But the latest change is in the boardroom as American group TAG Partners LLC, represented by Paul Galvin, have stepped in to buy the club.

The Americans will own 80 per cent of Bologna FC by July 1 and will acquire the remaining 20 per cent at the end of next season.

Club President Alfredo Cazzola will remain and his group Aktiva Spa will still have a say over the direction taken in the boardroom.

The good news for Bologna fans is that the new owners have pledged to sink around £15m into the club – money that could be used to lure some high-profile new recruits.

Now although I'm usually against foreign owners like this in fairness this is exactly what the club needed, especially now they're back in Serie A. I expect them to make some decent signings in the coming weeks.

Bologna pick Pavlyuchenko Saturday 21 June, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bologna aim to celebrate their promotion to Serie A by splashing out £7m on Russian star Roman Pavlyuchenko.

The striker has scored 41 goals in the last two campaigns with Spartak Moscow and impressed in Euro 2008 for his country.

Although Pavlyuchenko has earned interest from the likes of Barcelona and Chelsea, the 26-year-old has become a prize target for little Bologna.

One thing that may go in their favour is that the club has just been bought out by American investors eager to build their profile with a big signing.

Before the tournament kicked off, Pavlyuchenko’s price tag was around £7m, but if he keeps up this kind of form when Russia take on Holland this evening, then it is set to rise rapidly.

Meanwhile, Bologna are also looking at bringing back Tomas Locatelli, who played at the Stadio Dall’Ara from 2000 to 2005.

The Trequartista is currently a free agent after the end of his contract with Siena.

The Rossoblu are building a solid side, having already captured Sergio Volpi and are close to signing Sampdoria defender Cristian Zenoni.

They've already made some decent signings, such as Volpi, so they're looking good to stay up.

The money has been spent wisely, so far....

What a return to serie a, beating Milan 2-1 at the San Siro. Also, the deal with the Americans was never finalized. The owners are still Italian.
