0-0 against Brescia on Saturday.

Not a bad result.

Bari 0-0 Brescia

Brescia lose sight of the top of the table with this disappointing setback at the Stadio San Nicola. In fact, Bari had the best chances in the first half with Stellini, Santoruvo and Lanzafame. Their current stuttering form has taken its toll on the Rondinelle, who saw Possanzini sent off. Allegrini was also dismissed late on.

Sent off: Allegrini 81 (Ba), Possanzini 86 (Br)

Bari: Gillet; Belmonte (Allegrini 76), Di Dio, Stellini, Loseto; Galasso (Ganci 76), Donda, Gazzi, Rajcic, Lanzafame (Fiorentino); Santoruvo

Brescia: Vivano; Santacroce, Zoboli, Mareco; Stankevicius, Vass, Zambrella (Scaglia 57), Lima, Mannini; Fecvesin (Bazzani 65), Possanzini

Ref: Saccani

Attendance: 3,511

Serie B: Bari make Conte call Saturday 29 December, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Serie B strugglers Bari have called in Antonio Conte after the acrimonious departure of Coach Giuseppe Materazzi.

Materazzi opted to resign after a 4-0 thrashing by Lecce in the Puglian derby, but he angered President Vincenzo Matarrese, who had pledged his support to the hapless tactician just hours earlier.

“I feel betrayed,” the Galletti patron bewailed. “Yesterday we gave Materazzi our trust after a stinging derby defeat and now he has left.

“But we want to thank him for all the work he managed to do in less than a year at the club. He is a gentleman and obviously thought hard before resigning.”

The choice of Conte as a replacement comes as something of a shock as he hails from Lecce – a city with which Bari enjoys a fierce rivalry.

A former Juventus midfield hero, Conte was assistant Coach to Luigi De Canio at Siena in 2005-06 and fell victim to a cruel relegation with Arezzo last term.

“This is a group with lots of quality and I want to show that,” the 38-year-old enthused at his first Press conference.

“We just need to work hard on the mental side as the seem to alternate between good performances and debacles – it’s not a tactical issue.”

Bari are languishing just above the relegation zone and are in dire need of three points when they entertain fellow strugglers Avellino on January 12.

Lets hope Conte does better than he did with Arezzo.
