Genoa’s hat-trick hero Marco Borriello has dedicated his goals against Udinese to the Grifoni fans who have helped him during a tough journey.

The 25-year-old hitman’s career seemed to be on the rocks when he was suspended by Milan for substance abuse last year.

After impressing at Treviso in 2001-02, it seemed that Borriello’s promise may go to waste after far from fruitful spells at Empoli, Reggina and Sampdoria.

However, the Neapolitan marksman is enjoying a renaissance at Marassi and took his season total to four goals in three games with his match-winning performance against the Zebrette last night.

“It was all for the fans who are fantastic and today cheered us on from beginning to end once again,” he told journalists.

“We really wanted to win the derby against Sampdoria last weekend, but it was a tight game that was difficult to play good football in.

“I feel fit and physically strong and technically I’m happy. Now I have conviction in my abilities.

“This is a very tough tournament and the teams are very equal, but we are a decent side and we just need time to settle. Time to continue down this path.”

Genoa travel to Napoli this weekend – a fixture that became a promotion party last term when a 0-0 draw handed both sides places in Serie A.

Gasperini extends Genoa deal Friday 2 November, 2007

Coach Gian Piero Gasperini has been rewarded for his exceptional work at Genoa with a new four-year contract.

The tactician’s present deal was set to expire at the end of the current campaign, but he’s today put pen to paper on an agreement which will tie him to the port club until June 2012.

“I’m very proud to be a part of this project,” stated the former Juventus youth team boss. “I owe a lot to President Enrico Preziosi.

“This recognition increases my role within the workings of this club.

“I am well aware that as a Coach everything is linked to results, but the fact that this extension has arrived so soon and before Christmas is particularly satisfying.”

Gasperini, born in January 1958, is one of the most highly-rated tacticians in the world of Italian football at this moment in time.

His first job came with Crotone in Serie C back in 2003-04 where he led them to promotion, before he moved to Genoa in 2006.

He won promotion to Serie A in his first campaign and the Rossoblu are currently 11th in the standings this term, having collected 13 points from 10 games.

Genoa have swooped for Brazilian starlet Wilson who will train with his Rossoblu teammates this afternoon.

The Marassi outfit are trying to galvanise a defence that has been breached 24 times so far this term and have already brought in Domenico Criscito on loan from Juventus.

Wilson has been a familiar face at Corinthians since coming through the Todo Poderoso’s youth system in 2002.

The 22-year-old forward spent time on loan to Second Division side Paulista last year, but he played 12 games in Brazil’s top flight in 2007.

The new man passed a medical yesterday and was unveiled to the Press this afternoon.

Jankovic has had a tough time in Italy since moving from Mallorca. You can telll he has talent though. A regular for the Serbian NT and still young, so a good signing for Genoa.
