Serie A Week 30 - 1/4/07 (14.00 UK)

Torino 0 - 0 Palermo
Stadio Olimpico

The spoils were shared in Turin, although there were plenty of chances for both sides and Palermo retain fourth place.

The Rosanero were on the slide and without victory in seven rounds, though Toro's climb since Gianni De Biasi's comeback to the bench saw them dispatch Messina and Catania in the last two weeks, so were on for a Sicilian hat-trick. On-form striker Edison Cavani was out for Palermo with a muscular problem along with Amauri and Eugenio Corini.

The last Serie A away win in this fixture was 1-0 in October 1932, followed by two draws and 13 defeats.

Palermo had the first real chance after three minutes when Andrea Caracciolo sprinted forward, but fired straight at Christian Abbiati. Moments later a free kick was floated in for Christian Zaccardo's head and Abbiati was made to work again with a tough low one-handed save.

Cesare Bovo's free kick was well held and Oscar Brevi brought down David Di Michele on the counter just outside the area.

Palermo were about to take the lead with Di Michele just before the break, but Brevi performed a crucial intervention from a promising position.

Substitute Roberto Stellone sprung the offside trap from Nikola Lazetic's pass over the defence only to balloon his lob over in a one-on-one with Alberto Fontana.

Alessandro Rosina went on a slalom before he was finally brought down by Maurizio Ciaramitaro. Zaccardo's header from a Fabio Simplicio free kick and a Bresciano snapshot were off target.

Caracciolo thought his volley had snatched victory 10 minutes from time, but it was disallowed for an offside position.

Torino: Abbiati; Comotto, Brevi, Bovo, Balestri; Gallo, Ardito; Rosina, Muzzi (Stellone 59), Lazetic (Barone 77); Abbruscato (Konan 71)

Palermo: Fontana; Zaccardo, Barzagli, Biava (Cassani 57), Pisano; Diana, Ciaramitaro (Giacomazzi 91), Simplicio, Bresciano; Di Michele (Brienza 73); Caracciolo

Default Torino - Atalanta 15/4/07 FT 1-2

Quote:
Serie A Week 32 - 15/4/07 (14.00 UK) Torino - Atalanta
Stadio Olimpico Atalanta face a difficult away trip as they take on Torino at the Stadio Olimpico in Week 32. Both teams will be looking for all three points, but while the Bergamaschi have got UEFA ambitions the Granata will just want to get as far away as possible from the relegation zone.

The Nerazzurri have been in bad shape recently, but their home victory against Chievo last Saturday has given them new hopes. Toro are not at their best and they were defeated 1-0 by Sampdoria.

Atalanta are in a safe mid-table position with 36 points and to gain access to Europe they will need to overtake Doria who are just two steps ahead. Torino are 13th with 32 points and starved of any real ambitions apart from survival. However, the Granata will have to avoid another home slip up or run the risk of being embroiled in a dogfight.

Coach Gianni De Biasi is considering his options and is likely to switch to a 4-4-2 formation. In front of Christian Abbiati, former Palermo man Cesare Bovo and Orazio Brevi should be the central defenders. In the midfield Fabio Gallo should be reconfirmed even if Simone Barone may be in the starting XI. Star man Alessandro Rosina and Nikola Lazetic will play on the flanks.

De Biasi will have to without Roberto Muzzi who is banned. Elvis Abbruscato and Roberto Stellone are likely to form the attacking duo, but Masashi Oguro and Cedric Konan could get a chance.

Nerazzurri boss Stefano Colantuono will confirm a 4-4-1-1 formation, but he will have to replace Simone Loria and Luca Ariatti who are both suspended. Towering defender Moris Carrozzieri should step in, while Fernando Tissone will take Ariatti’s place on the left flank. Nicola Ventola, who is not 100 per cent fit, will start once again from the bench. Christian Vieri is still not available.

Man on fire: Cristiano Doni (Atalanta) – The former Mallora ace has been simply unstoppable. The 34-year-old attacking midfielder has scored 12 goals so far this season, including a late winner against Chievo last week.

Form guide: Torino (L W W D L) Atalanta (L D L D W)
Torino (probable): Abbiati; Comotto, Bovo, Brevi, Balestri; Rosina, Gallo, Ardito, Lazetic; Abbruscato, Stellone
Atalanta (probable): Calderoni; Rivalta, Talamonti, Loria, Bellini; Ferriera Pinto, Bernardini, Migliaccio, Ariatti; Doni; Zampagna

Not a good result for Torino! Should of done better. Especially with a man off!

Serie A Week 32 - 15/4/07 (14.00 UK)

Torino 1 - 2 Atalanta
Bellini 1 (A), Zampagna 8 (A), Abbruscato 70 (T)
Stadio Olimpico

Atalanta pounced on two defensive howlers in the opening eight minutes and, despite going down to 10 men, held on for a surprise victory in Turin.

Both these teams were promoted in the summer, but while Atalanta have been challenging for a UEFA Cup spot, Toro would be content just to stay in Serie A for another season. Roberto Muzzi, Simone Loria and Luca Ariatti were suspended for this tie. The Granata had not won this home fixture in the top flight since 1993.

It took just 60 seconds for Atalata to silence the Stadio Olimpico. A free kick was cleared as far as Giampaolo Bellini's strike, but it took a decisive deflection off Torino defender Gianluca Comotto to leave Christian Abbiati stranded.

And by the eighth minute it was 2-0. Riccardo Zampagna doubled their tally by pouncing on a defensive error, as Gabriele Cioffi's horrible touch inside the area gave the striker an enticing ball to thump in.

Roberto Stellone had penalty appeals for the Granata, while Alex Calderoni did well to control a spectacular Cioffi overhead kick.

The Atalanta goalkeeper only parried an Alessandro Rosina drive from the edge of the area, but Nikola Lazetic somehow managed to balloon the rebound over from six yards.

However, it all went wrong for Atalanta when Adriano was shown his second yellow card for obstruction and shirt-tugging on the stroke of half-time. It seemed a little harsh for a second bookable offence, as it seemed to be a bit of both with Simone Barone. Adriano had to be accompanied from the field and Cristiano Doni was also booked for his protests.

Toro had a great chance to get back into the game on 69 minutes, but Stellone's point-blank shot was deflected on to the upright.

The celebration was only postponed by 60 seconds, as Elvis Abbruscato's looping free header at the back post dipped into the far corner.

Torino had a good chance to draw level in the final stages, but Japanese substitute Oguro fired straight at Calderoni from six yards. Stellone also nodded over the target.

Torino: Abbiati; Comotto (Martinelli 84), Brevi, Cioffi, Balestri, Gallo, Ardito (Abbruscato 44); Rosina, Barone, Lazetic (Oguro 57); Stellone

Atalanta: Calderoni; Adriano, Talamonti, Carrozzieri, Bellini; Ferreira Pinto (Defendi 82), Migliaccio, Donati, Tissone; Doni (Rivalta 43); Zampagna (Ventola 62)

Default Serie A: Torino - Ascoli [06-05-07]

Quote:
Serie A Week 35 - 6/5/07 (14.00 UK)

Torino-Ascoli
Stadio Olimpico

Torino have no option but to win when they face a hopeless Ascoli at the Stadio Olimpico in Week 35. While the Bianconeri are in Serie B already, the Granata are still hoping to avoid a relegation which could have disastrous effects on the club.

Torino and Ascoli are probably the most out of form Serie A outfits, since both of them have lost four of their last five games. In last week’s turn Toro were defeated 1-0 by Milan and the Bianconeri were hammered by Reggina on their own soil.

The Granata are now fourth from bottom with 33 points, one more than Chievo. All their relegation rivals, Reggina, Parma and Catania, managed to get the three points last weekend, leaving Toro behind. Ascoli are at the bottom of the table with 20 points and have virtually no chance of getting out of trouble.

Coach Gianni De Biasi will have to put his faith in the same men who have been largely disappointing in the last few weeks. He is set to pick a 4-2-3-1 formation. In defence Oscar Brevi is suspended and will be replaced by Gabriele Cioffi. Fabio Gallo and Andrea Ardito will play in midfield. The trident behind lone striker Roberto Stellone will be formed by Alessandro Rosina, Roberto Muzzi and Nikola Lazetic.

Coach Nedo Sonetti cannot ask much more from his players. The season is pretty much over for them and the Bianconeri are already planning their next Serie B campaign. Ascoli will play with a 3-4-1-2 formation and will have to do without Massimo Bonanni, Matteo Melara, Michelangelo Minieri and Paolo Foglio who are all suspended. Gigi Di Biagi should return in defence. Michele Fini will play as a trequartista behind Sasa Bjelanovic and Andrea Soncin.

Man on fire: Alessandro Rosina (Torino) – Rosinaldo is the only one able to save Torino. He will be looking to repeat his Week 16 display when he scored twice against Ascoli.

Form guide: Torino (L L L D L) Ascoli (L L D L L)

Last season: Not played

Torino (probable): Abbiati; Comotto, Franceschini, Cioffi, Balestri; De Ascentis, Ardito; Rosina, Muzzi, Lazetic; Stellone

Ascoli (probable): Eleftheropoulos; Corallo, Di Biagio, Lombardi; Guberti, P.Zanetti, Boudianski, Pesce; Fini; Soncin, Bjelanovic

This could be the most important game for Torino this season. They need a win at all costs. And i think they will get it. Ascoli are already doing their homework on Serie B clubs.
