New Bari boss Giuseppe Materazzi had the worst possible start to his spell on the bench, returning to this club after a decade. Arezzo hitman Floro Flores opened the scoring after only two minutes with a clinical left-foot shot in the bottom right hand corner of Gillet’s goal. Then the visitors tried to protect their lead by focusing on their defence, while Bari were looking for a way to break through. At the 41st minute Tabbiani’s right-foot volley went past a stunned goalkeeper Bremec and straight into the net for the long-awaited equaliser. One minute later Gervasoni saw red for using his elbow and he was followed by Materazzi for protesting the decision. Despite this situation, the Southerners held on for a point.

Bologna struggled to push past 10-man Bari, but eventually broke through when Bellucci ended his penalty curse. The striker had missed three on the trot, including two in the last two games, before he buried the spot-kick awarded for Esposito’s foul on Meghni. That proved a turning point, as Tabbiani saw red for taking his protests too far. Bari never really threatened even when they had all their men on the field and in stoppages Mingazzini’s towering header secured the 2-0 scoreline. It’s the Rossoblu’s second consecutive victory.

Nessun proclamo, nessuna dichiarazione popolare ed ovviamente nessun nome su eventuali nuovi arrivi o partenze. Questa volta, alla presentazione del nuovo direttore sportivo, solo una generale spiegazione di quelli che saranno i principali obiettivi nel medio periodo.

Il primo a parlare è il presidente Matarrese: "Mi dovrete sopportare per un altro anno - sottolinea - purtroppo quella che è passata è stata una stagione che doveva andare in modo diverso. Fino a dicembre c'erano alcune aspettative e poi ci siamo trovati di fronte ad una rottura completa. Ho ingaggiato Perinetti e Materazzi perchè credo che con loro si possa lavorare seriamente seguendo un programma preciso". Sul rapporto con i tifosi ha aggiunto: "Continuerò a non venire allo stadio. Le contestazioni che ho ricevuto sono state troppo pesanti. Non le meritavo dopo quanto ho dato a questa squadra". Una parola anche sui giocatori: "Ora si godino le loro ferie. Ma chi ha tentato di rovinare il Bari la pagherà".

La palla poi è passata al direttore Perinetti: "Ho accettato di venire a Bari per due motivi - dice - perchè mi piace l'entusiasmo del sud e perchè Matarrese, come tanti altri grandi presidenti con cui ho lavorato, ha rispetto della città e orgoglio per la squadra. Ora però è tempo di passare dalle parole ai fatti. Dobbiamo lavorare in sintonia con tutti e cercare di trovare i giusti equilibri. Speriamo di avere fortuna".

Alla fine anche Materazzi: "Ringrazio tutto l'ambiente dove ho lavorato e dove lavorerò anche il prossimo anno. Con il nuovo direttore cercheremo di portare avanti un discorso importante e serio. Fondamentale, questa stagione, era non precipitare. Dobbiamo continuare con motivazioni sempre migliori per riportare entusiasmo in tutto l'ambiente".
