Livorno take on Giannichedda Wednesday 1 August, 2007

Ex-Juventus midfielder Giuliano Giannichedda has completed his expected move to Livorno.

The 32-year-old became a free agent on July 22 when the he opted not to renew his contract at the Bianconeri.

Despite playing regular first team football for six seasons at Udinese and four campaigns with Lazio, the Frosinone native never managed to hold a place in the Juve side.

Since arriving in Turin in 2005, Giannichedda made only 22 appearances, mostly as a substitute, and looked highly unlikely to play any role this term.

“Livorno want to communicate that the club has signed midfielder Giuliano Giannichedda,” a statement reads on the Amaranto’s official website.

Giannichedda is set to be officially presented on Wednesday afternoon at around 3.30pm at the Labronici’s Coni di Tirrenia training facility.

Friendlies: Livorno await Dhorasoo Friday 3 August, 2007

Livorno beat Carrarese 2-1 in tonight’s friendly, but Vikash Dhorasoo’s injury nightmare continues.

Fernando Orsi’s men emerged with the victory in their pre-season test, although they were without the injured Fausto Rossini and Dhorasoo.

Former Milan midfielder Dhorasoo has returned to France for a new medical examination and will not even make the trip to Greece for the games with AEK Athens and PAOK.

Summer signing Francesco Volpe opened the scoring when Simone Pavan held up a Massimo Loviso free kick for the former Ravenna hitman.

Livorno stepped up a gear after the break and Francesco Tavano threatened, but it was a Luis Vidigal diving header that secured the victory.

Carrarese pulled one back through Baronetto from the penalty spot late on.

Livid Livorno contest Riganò sale Wednesday 15 August, 2007

Livorno have threatened to sue Messina and Levante, insisting they have already bought Christian Riganò.

The striker had been expected to replace Cristiano Lucarelli at the Stadio Armando Picchi this season and last week President Aldo Spinelli confirmed as much to the media.

However, this afternoon Messina officially sold Riganò to Spanish club Levante on a two-year contract.

“We have bought him from Messina,” snapped a furious Spinelli. “We have all the documents and they are signed.

“It is true, we have not been able to reach an agreement on personal terms with the player, but I don’t believe Messina can sell him to another club like that.”

As they await news on how to proceed in the matter and seek legal advice, Livorno could turn their attention towards Chievo centre-forward Erjon Bogdani.

The Amaranto have not had much luck with overseas sides this summer, as they are also in drawn-out negotiations to sell goalkeeper Marco Amelia to Manchester City.

Livorno have confirmed that they are in negotiations with Manchester City to sell goalkeeper Marco Amelia.

“The talks with Manchester City are already underway,” revealed President Aldo Spinelli this afternoon. “Before August 22, Sven Goran Eriksson’s emissaries will arrive here.”


The Swede had commented he was looking to bring in a new goalkeeper before the August 31 transfer window and it is now official his primary target is Italian international Amelia.


Lazio are also in the running, especially after first choice Juan Pablo Carrizo was held up by bureaucratic problems with regards to his Italian passport.


“Lazio made a move for Amelia too late in the day,” continued Livorno patron Spinelli.


“Besides, Amelia is certainly worth more than the £5m offered by the Biancocelesti.”


Eriksson has already snapped up Serie A players Rolando Bianchi and Valeri Bojinov this summer, while he has made bids for Palermo’s Mark Bresciano and Juventus full-back Giorgio Chiellini.

Nando Orsi assures Livorno will "not be sacrificial lambs" when they take on Juventus this evening.

“Juve are a tough side, but we also hope to do our best to challenge them right to the final whistle,” said the Coach.


“It will be a great game to play against an opponent of such high calibre in the first round. The spotlight will be on us and we do not intend to be sacrificial lambs.”


This is Orsi’s first start to a campaign on a Serie A bench, as he was Roberto Mancini’s assistant manager at Inter and then took over Livorno mid-season.


“It will be exciting for everyone. We hope our desire to do well and our enthusiasm can be transformed into concentration and positive energy.”


Orsi remained cagey over the XI that will begin the match in Turin. “The only certain starter is Marco Amelia in goal. I still have to think about the others.”


The Amaranto step into the Stadio Olimpico without the injured Vikash Dhorasoo and former Bianconeri midfielder Giuliano Giannichedda.


“I really wanted to play this game and it is a real shame I won’t be there,” said Giannichedda. “Unfortunately, this injury is keeping me out and I hope to be back after the break for international duty.


“It will be tough against Juventus, as after a year in Serie B their need to prove a point is palpable. They have many great champions and among the new faces Domenico Criscito, Tiago Mendes and Sergio Almiron are the most impressive.”

Unfit Dhorasoo leaves Livorno Wednesday 31 October, 2007

Livorno have rescinded ex-Milan midfielder Vikash Dhorasoo’s contract by mutual consent after his recent spat with the club.

The 34-year-old arrived from PSG this summer, but there were immediate concerns that he lacked the level of fitness required.

Unimpressed by Dhorasoo’s attitude, new boss Giancarlo Camolese ordered him to play for the youth side last weekend, but he refused and went AWOL.

“We signed Dhorasoo even though he wasn’t in the best condition and the Coach didn’t think that he was ready for the first team,” Livorno President Aldo Spinelli explained.

“He asked him to play for the youth team as that would have been a good indicator, but the player refused to accept that decision.

“I don’t see that there was any other possible outcome other than the termination of his contract.”

Dhorasoo leaves the Stadio Armando Picchi without having played a competitive game for the Tuscans.

Tristan nears Livorno exit Monday 5 November, 2007

Spanish striker Diego Tristan’s time at Livorno may already be drawing to a close after just three months at the Stadio Armando Picchi.

The 31-year-old has failed to settle with the struggling Tuscans and is reportedly considering rescinding his contract in December.

Despite boasting a prolific record at Deportivo La Coruna and having 15 international caps to his name, Tristan has appeared just twice for the Amaranto and has struggled for fitness.

According to El Confidencial, Tristan is looking to continue his career at a Spanish Segunda Division side and could move into a coaching role.

His signing will rate as one of the summer’s biggest flops after he was brought in as a partial replacement to talismanic goal machine Cristiano Lucarelli.

Tristan denies Livorno exit

Livorno striker Diego Tristan claims he is ready to fight for a place at the Stadio Armando Picchi and refuted rumours that he is ready to quit Italy.

Tristan arrived in the summer with an impressive CV, including 15 Spain caps and a highly productive spell with Deportivo La Coruna.

It had been hoped that the 31-year-old would help compensate for the loss of Cristiano Lucarelli, but so far he has played just twice and looked ill at ease prompting whispers he would return to Spain.

“First of all I want to deny the rumours that appeared on a Spanish website regarding my future in Italy,” Tristan insisted.

“I want to stay with Livorno until June. This club gave me the chance to play in the Italian championship and I have a debt of gratitude.

“I have found a very prepared set-up, which provides for my every need. I hope that I can stay and repay the club’s faith in me.

“I have a good relationship with the Coach and I will give my all to do my talking on the pitch.”

Amelia hails Don effect Thursday 7 February, 2008

Livorno goalkeeper Marco Amelia believes that Roberto Donadoni deserves credit for instilling a winning mentality into the Italy side.

The Azzurri comfortably beat Portugal 3-1 in Zurich last night with Amelia deputising in goal for the injured Gigi Buffon.

“I think we showed that we are an excellent group,” he declared on Radio Radio TV.

“We take on friendlies and qualification games with the same mentality and the same desire to get a result.

“The mental factor counts for a lot and I think that the Coach is responsible for getting us motivated.

“We couldn’t have played that game in that way after our Euro 2008 qualification campaign otherwise.”

Amelia concluded by analysing his own performance, which won praise from the peninsula’s journalists.

“The head is also very important in a goalkeeper’s performance, as you need to stay calm to allow your teammates to be relaxed,” he said. “I think that I demonstrated that on the pitch.”

Spinelli crowns Camolese Sunday 10 February, 2008



Livorno President Aldo Spinelli is well known for insulting his tacticians, but he broke with tradition to praise Giancarlo Camolese.

“Camolese has done very well to take the team back up the table,” said the patron, who brought him in after firing Nando Orsi.

“In my view, the threshold for achieving safety this season will be between 38 and 40 points and there are at least 10 teams involved. This is why we must make the most of home advantage.”

The player who has most benefited from Camolese’s arrival is Francesco Tavano, who has bloomed under the Coach’s tutelage.

“Tavano is doing very well after his unlucky experiences at Valencia and Roma. He deserves an international call for his extraordinary consistency.

“In terms of character he feels the need to know he is supported and surrounded by enthusiasm, which is what he is getting at Livorno.”

Spinelli also revealed that there were negotiations to sell the striker to Napoli during the January transfer window.

“They asked me for Tavano, but if they don’t offer at least £7m then I won’t sell him to anyone. I don’t know if Napoli can match that price-tag.”

Businessman Spinelli has been in football a long time and was in charge of Genoa – Livorno’s opponents this afternoon - for 13 years from 1985.

“It will be a very special match for me,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss. “I cannot allow myself to get swept up in sentiment, as we must win. There’s still a long battle ahead of us to stay up, as we are by no means out of the danger zone.”
