Easy win for Köln

Newly promoted 1. FC Köln had no trouble seeing off an amateur selection 5-0 in nearby Bergisch Gladbach in front of a crowd of 4.600. Coach Christoph Daum saw goals from Nemanja Vucicevic, Taner Yalcin, Fabrice Ehret, Mahmut Temur and Milivoje Novakovic, who has extended his contract to 2011.

The Slovenia international's 20 goals last season made him top scorer in the 2. Bundesliga. "Novakovic is a key player for us. We're pleased he's committed himself to the club by extending his contract even before it was due," said FC Köln commercial manager Michael Meier.

The media rates him quite highly and he was statistically one of the best CB's in the league last season, but I find him to be very overrated. He is clumsy on the ball, makes poor clearances far too often and has too many lapses in concentration. Kind of reminds me of Metzelder.

I rate him at all tbh, Sereno (his CB partner at Guimaraes) is so much better. But he never gets any recognition, it's like with Terry and Carvalho. Everyone knows that Carvalho is better and does all the dirty work, but it's Terry who always gets credit for everything.

1. FC Köln and SK Austria Kärnten shared four goals ahead of 511 fans in Köstschach.

The spectators had to wait for the second half to see goals, and it was Austria's Matthias Dollinger who opened the scoring with a shot in the top corner three minutes after the break.

Vucicevic on target

Nemanja Vucicevic restored parity on the hour mark from a defence-splitting ball by Ümit Özat, but Dollinger bagged his second with 13 minutes left to send Austria 2-1 up.

Cologne were given a helping hand by an own goal seven minutes from time and the match ended 2-2.
