Default Vittek out for a month

Nuernberg striker Robert Vittek will be out for the next four weeks after picking up a thigh injury in his side's 1-0 defeat to Werder Bremen on Sunday.

The Slovakia international was forced off midway through the second half of the match, and scans later revealed a tear in the muscle tissue.

Vittek's compatriot at Nuernberg, Vratislav Gresko, also emerged with a thigh injury from the match, though it is not yet known how long he will be out for. He will be replaced by Brazilian centre back Glauber for Saturday's Bundesliga clash with Alemannia Aachen.

The third member of Nuernberg's Slovakian contingent, Marek Mintal, will have his long-awaited comeback from a broken foot put back for a further week after coming down with a bout of flu, though Tunisian Jawhar Mnari should be available.

Despite his limited resources, Nuremberg remain firmly in the hunt for the final UEFA Cup spot in the Bundesliga, though boss Hans Meyer said that would be the limit of his side's ambitions.

"You can see that the depth of our squad is not enough for any further demands," he said.

Nurnberg 1 - 0 Alemannia Aachen

12' [1 - 0] C. Pagenburg

Nice result for Nurnberg, they can catch Leverkusen if Bayern beat Leverkusen today.

Very important win for Nurnberg, they've moved up to 5th place after Leverkusen's loss at Allianz Arena.

Default Nurnberg wait for Blazek deal

Sparta Prague want Nurnberg to wait before the clubs reach an agreement for Jaromir Blazek.

Nurnberg are keen to sign the veteran Czech keeper in the summer as a replacement for the Stuttgart-bound Raphael Schafer.

The German side's director of sport Martin Bader has revealed that the two clubs are close to striking a deal.

But Sparta would prefer to put any agreement on hold until after their clash with city rivals Slavia later this month.

Blazek's agent Pavel Paska has confirmed that Sparta have informed Nurnberg of their intention to delay further talks.

"Sparta have forwarded a written announcement to FC Nurnberg that the club is now going to play important games before which they don't want to hold talks over Blazek's future," Paska told CTK.

Blazek is under contract to Sparta for a further year and the keeper is expected to cost Nurnberg in the region of €750,000 (£500,000).

Default Schroth moves from Nürnberg to München

The 32 year-old player signed a contract on Wednesday valid till 30. Juni 2009 but with an option to extend one more year. The striker is also contracted to play an as of yet undetermined long-term role after retiring from active play in the club he played for from 1998 to 2004.

"1860 is where my heart is"

"I'm really looking forward to coming back to München", said Schroth. "1860 is where my heart is. I want to do my part to keep the club on the success track moving into the future."

Head coach Marco Kurz labeled the move a "milestone" for 1860. "Markus was exactly the player we wanted. He's an excellent striker, who brings a great deal of experience and leadership", said Kurz.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen 2 - 0 1. FC Nürnberg

Leverkusen's win takes them above Nürnberg and up to fifth and a UEFA Cup slot. Nürnberg remain six points clear of seventh-placed Hertha.

Two goals from Bernd Schneider wrapped up the points for Bayer. The midfielder's double strike in the 19th and 59th minutes also put an end to a four-game losing streak in all competitions for the home side.

They have a chance still, from Intertoto Cup.
Oh, not to forget, they're on finals of Cup, so that secure's them automatically a UEFA Cup spot (or do they have to win the Cup?).

It depends on the opponent. Since Stuttgart are garanteed a CL spot, Nurnberg are already in the Uefa Cup for next season.

If Nurnberg's opponent was, say Aachen, then only the winner of the cup would go to the Uefa Cup, as Aachen haven't garanteed a spot in the European competitions for next season.
