Default Nurnberg beaten in Munich

FC Bayern extend their lead on top of the Bundesliga with a convincing home win over 1. FC Nürnberg in the 176th Bavarian Derby.

The German record champions won 3-0 and go into the international break five points ahead of promoted Karlsruher SC.

Bayern stay unbeaten

Bayern stay unbeaten after twelve competitive matches this season, FCN are down in 17th place after seven Bundesliga matches without a win.

Luca Toni (31, 81) and Ze Roberto (40) were on target for Bayern.

Nuremberg had reached the group stage of the UEFA Cup on Thursday - just like Bayern - but they were simply outplayed.

Blazek blunder

Bayern took the lead when FCN keeper Jaromir Blazek was only able to parry Hamit Altintops free-kick, Toni followed up to score with a clinical finish.

Bastian Schweinsteiger brilliantly created the second goal when his clever back-heel sent Ze Roberto clean through, and the Brazilian left Blazek no chance.

Toni brace

Toni put the icing on the cake for Bayern with a header from Ze Roberto's corner ten minutes from time.

Joshua Kennedy (48, 75) and Dominik Reinhardt (84) missed chances to score a consolation goal for thw guests.

Default Galasek: "Simply blown away"

1. FC Nürnberg were outplayed by FC Bayern in the Bavarian Derby. Captain Tomas Galasek talked to bundesliga.de about the reasons.

1. FC Nürnberg wanted to link to the 2-2 draw away to Rapid Bucharest, that secured the group stage of the UEFA Cup for Nuremberg.

But the Franconians had absolutely no chance against FC Bayern and lost 3-0 in the Allianz Arena.

bundesliga.de: Tomas Galasek, what was wrong with 1. FC Nürnberg today?

Tomas Galasek: Nothing was wrong, we simply were up against a team that was a notch above us.

bundesliga.de: Why didn't the team play as fresh as in the UEFA Cup against Bucharest?

Galasek: It always depends on what the other team allows. Bayern didn't allow anything and then, to tell the truth, they simply blew us away.

bundesliga.de: Was FCN's attitude a bit too defensive-minded?

Galasek: No, I don't think so. You have to see that we have a problem with many injured players. We were able to make up for that in Bucharest, but unfortunately we didn't manage that today.

bundesliga.de: Maybe the missing goals by strikers are a problem, too?

Galasek: That's hard to say. We had nothing to lose today, but we still wanted to achieve a good result and maybe try to snatch a point. That didn't work, but it's hard to point your finger at what we're lacking."

bundesliga.de: If you could choose one Bayern player to help you out in the current situation, who would that be?

Galasek: We don't need anyone, we have enough good players.

Default Roth re-elected as president

FC Nuernberg president Michael Roth has been re-elected to serve for another three years.

Roth, 72, has been in charge of the club for 13 years, and has been instrumental in turning the financial and team performance of the Bavarian club.

Last season the club announced a profit of 1.6 million euros and won the German Cup as well as finishing sixth in the Bundesliga.

Vice-president Ralf Woy said: "From only an economical point of view, we have not just fulfilled our aims, but have gone beyond them.

After last season's success, however, the club are now in the relegation zone with only six points after nine games, and have been drawn in a tough UEFA Cup group that includes Premier League side Everton.

Roth said: "We have got to get back into a safe mid-table position.

"The page must now be turned. Maybe the success from last season is still in the heads of the players, but that is history."

SpVgg Greuther Fürth beat 1. FC Nürnberg

2. Bundesliga side SpVgg Greuther Fürth have won a friendly match against DFB Cup winners 1. FC Nürnberg 3-1.

Stefan Maierhofer (3), Juri Judt (11) and Martin Lanig (32) were on target for the hosts.

Chhunli Pagenburg (86) scored Nuremberg's consolation goal ahead of 5.200 fans in Fürth's Playmobil-Stadion.

"You can't play like that in a derby. We don't play as a team at the moment, we have to get that right as soon as possible", FCN sporting director Martin Bader said afterwards.

The Franconian derby, the match played most often in German football history, was played for a good cause.

Default Meyer baffled by Nurnberg form

FC Nurnberg coach Hans Meyer is dumbfounded by his team's poor form this season with an embarrassing 3-1 friendly defeat to neighbours Greuther Furth on Wednesday the club's latest setback.

Meyer's side won the German Cup last season and finished sixth in the Bundesliga to celebrate their best season in over three decades.

But now they are in the bottom three of the Bundesliga with a quarter of the new season gone.

"I really cannot understand the condition of some players who were regular first-choices last season, but have now dropped into the reserves," he said.

"In a friendly game like this, they should have done all they could to prove themselves, but there was absolutely none of that on view.

"Precisely that is our biggest problem. There is nobody in our reserves putting pressure on (the first team)."

The only consolation so far has been their qualification for the group stage of the UEFA Cup.

Default Trouble at the back for Nürnberg

German contenders 1. FC Nürnberg expect to begin their UEFA Cup group-stage campaign without the services of defender Lars Jacobsen.

Absent for Everton
Danish international Jacobsen has effectively been ruled out of the Group A home game against Everton FC on 8 November after learning that he requires a groin operation. Although the timing of the surgery and the subsequent recuperation period remain unknown, the 28-year-old will likely miss the English Premier League side's visit to the Frankenstadion on Matchday 2.

Wolf fear
Another Nürnberg defender, Andreas Wolf, is struggling with a thigh injury but should be fit to face Everton. However, the 25-year-old will be unable to add to his eight Bundesliga appearances this season in Saturday's home match against Eintracht Frankfurt. Jacobsen, a summer signing from FC København, has made less of an impact for the German Cup holders this term, having registered a solitary substitute appearance in the league. Nürnberg, who sit second from bottom in the table, will also take on FC Zenit St. Petersburg, AZ Alkmaar and Larissa FC in UEFA Cup Group A.

Default Nuremberg break their duck

DFB Cup winners 1. FC Nürnberg celebrated their first home win of the season in style with an emphatic victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.

1.FC Nürnberg have had a poor start to the season following last seasons excellent form. They started the match in a relegation spot and were looking to pick up some much needed points against a side without an away win so far.

Early lead Frankfurt

Thanks to a goal from Naohiro Takahara after 12 minutes the visitors stormed into the lead. The goal was down to some good play from Amanatidis.

Angelos Charisteas equalised in the 20th minute after a freekick from Kristiansen hit the post and rebounded out for him to slot home.

Who could have predicted what was to come next?

Goal feast

Most of the 45,050 fans at the easyCredit-Stadion went wild as Marek Mintal put the home side into the lead. The goal coming just after the break in the 50th minute.

Shortly afterwards Nürnberg were awarded a penalty after Pröll fouled Charisteas in the box. Zjvezdan Misimovi slotted home from the spot to give his side a 3-1 lead.

Magic Mintal

Marek Mintal put his side in an even more comfortable position with his second of the encounter after 65 minutes. Joshua Kennedy added the icing to the cake with the fifth goal eight minutes from time.

It was a great performance from the home side and they will be mighty relieved to get the win. The victory gives them nine points after ten games and they move out of the relegation spots on goal difference. Frankfurt slip down to eigth but are still chasing the UEFA Cup spots and have 15 points.
