Default Bekoe Awaits Spurs, Hertha Offers

Quote:
Ghanaian hitman Eric Bekoe continued to angle towards a dream European move as he awaits offers from Spurs and Hertha Berlin...

21-year-old Ghana forward Eric Bekoe claims Hertha Berlin and Tottenham Hotspur are ready to swoop to take him from current club Asante Kotoko.

The Porcupine Warriors, a Ghana Premier League outfit, are keen not to lose the 21-year-old, but would be powerless to resist if the Euro big-guns came in with an offer.

Bekoe, for one, certainly hopes that's the case as he awaits a summer bid from England or Germany. The starlet, capped three times for his country, had health problems earlier this year and a big move could be the perfect remedy.

Bekoe revealed to the Daily Star. "My agent has told me of the teams who are willing to sign me and Hertha Berlin is one of them.

"Tottenham have also expressed their interest, even though nothing concrete is on the table.

"Spurs made their interest known when I played for the Black Stars against Mexico in a friendly match in London."

I've read this is the biggest win in the history of the club, in European competitions, if I'm not wrong.

They won against a shitty side, however, a win is a win.

Default Cicero [Hertha] ~ new signing !

New midfielder for Hertha

Hertha BSC unveiled their fifth new signing for the upcoming season on Friday. His name is Cicero, and he's Brazilian.

Quote:
The 23-year-old comes from Fluminense Rio de Janeiro on a two-year loan deal. "It's a pleasure to be here in Berlin. Hertha are a great club", he says.

Cicero Santos is a genuine all-rounder, who has played in a number of positions in the course of his career to date. Like his new coach Lucien Favre, however, he sees himself primarily as a defensive midfielder.

"Challenge for trophies"

"He's a polyvalent player. We're glad to have got him on our books" Favre said. An equally pleased Hertha sporting director Dieter Hoeneß described Cicero as being "full of beans".

The Brazilian newcomer, who recently netted three goals in 14 games in the Copa Libertadores, says he wants to "stay in with a shout in all competitions for as long as possible and be challenging for trophies".

Completed first training

He got a first impression of his new teammates in Thursday's UEFA Cup romp against Nistru Otaci, and is clearly keen to find his feet in Berlin and, as he put it, get acquainted with the philosophy. To that end, he completed his first training session with the squad on Friday morning.

"We're through to the next round"
In the wake of Hertha BSC's biggest win in Europe, coach Lucien Favre has little need to err on the side of caution as to the outcome of the tie.
Quote:

"I enjoyed the match as much as the fans did. That will see us through to the next round", Favre said following the 8-1 (5-0) drubbing of Nistru Otaci in the UEFA Cup first qualifying round first leg encounter.

Professional approach

Stand-in captain Pal Dardai did issued a note of caution about the second leg in Moldova on 31 July, saying: "We need to retain our professionalism. We don't want to embarrass ourselves over there, and have to watch out that we don't get injured."

One-way traffic

A 12,373 crowd in the Jahnsportpark watched a one-sided contest unfold from the off. Lukasz Piszczek (34.,42.,80.), Marko Pantelic (15.,38.), Raffael (23.,71) and Marc Stein (68.) netted the goals that effectively sealed Hertha's progress into the second qualifying round. Andrei Tcaciuc bagged a consolation strike for last season's Moldovan runners-up.

"The team made it easy for themselves today", enthused Favre afterwards: "We've already said we see the UEFA Cup as a great challenge, and want to take it as far as we can in the competition."

Hertha BSC play Liverpool in a friendly tonight. Kick off is on 19.45h (in 1 hour and 15 minutes from this post).

This is the list of the channels that will televise the match live:

Quote:
Al Jazeera Sport +2
DSF Sport
Setanta Sports 2
Sport 5+
I wanted to watch it, but I have no access to any of those channels, unfortunately.

This is the match preview article:

Quote:
English side FC Liverpool, who were Champions League semi-finalists last season, meet Hertha BSC in a friendly in Berlin's Olympic Stadium on Tuesday evening.

After their successful outing in UEFA Cup qualifiers against Moldavian first-division side Nistru Otaci last Thursday (July 17), Berlin now face another international opponent.

Newcomer Cicero will be there

Hertha coach Lucien Favre will still have to make do without the services of nicked-up players Josip Simunic, Maximilian Nicu and Lucio. Skipper Arne Friedrich will also not be in the line-up. The German international battled the flu for five days and participated in his first training session with the team on Monday morning. But he didn't train with his teammates in the afternoon.

That means Favre will be counting on his two Brazilian newcomers, Rodnei and Cicero, who will be making his debut for the Berliners. As for which position Cicero will play, the coach will determine in the course of training. Both are expected to be integrated into the team as quickly as possible.

"A prestige match"

"This is a prestige match", said Favre, who said "it would be fantastic" if the stadium were full. FC Liverpool, who won the Champions League in 2005 under current coach Rafael Benitez, are "a legend". The game is also expected to be a good test for the team. "Lots of players are going to see some action", said the coach.

Liverpool are also busy getting ready for the coming season. They kick off on August 16 against FC Sunderland, at the same time as the Bundesliga's first matchday. Last season, Rafael Benitez's team finished in fourth place, which meant they made it into the third qualifying round of the Champions League. For the friendly against Hertha, which Benitez called an important part of the preparations for the season, internationals Fernando Torres and Xavi Alonso will be missing, as well as injured captain Steven Gerrard.

Default Hertha Hold Liverpool In Friendly

Quote:
Hertha Berlin 0-0 Liverpool

Rafa Benítez's Liverpool could only manage a draw against Bundesliga outfit Hertha BSC in a match that saw Andrei Voronin miss a penalty...

The embattled Ukrainian's spot-kick miss was the highlight of a game short on action.

Early on the Reds looked the better side, with the effervescent Voronin teaming up with Jermaine Pennant to feed Mascherano.

But after the opening 15 minutes the game turned in favour of the Berlin men, with Chahed and Raffael looking particularly impressive.

Liverpool changed their defensive line entirely at half time, with the likes of Degen and Dossena given a chance to impress after their recent arrivals. Hertha responded by changing only stopper Drobny in favour of Christian Fiedler.

Five minutes after the break Fiedler was given the chance to impress after Kaka tore Voronin down in the box. The Ukrainian stepped up and duly found his penalty stopped by the veteran, who has been with Hertha for his entire career.

As the match wore on Pacheco had a fine chance at one end and Cicero one at the other, but overall the second half was disrupted too much by substitutions to offer too many chances.

Liverpool now travel to face Villarreal in eight days' time while die Alte Dame make the short trip to Magdeburg for a friendly on Saturday.

Hertha Berlin:
Drobny (Fiedler 46), Dardai (Domovchiyski 66), Chahed (Cicero 60), von Bergen (captain), Kaka, Ebert (Hartmann 74), Kacar (Radjabali-Fardi 60), Raffael (Lustenberger 66), Stein, Pantelic (Bigalke 74), Piszczek.

Liverpool: Cavalieri (Martin 64), Insua (Degen 46), Carragher (captain) (Benayoun 46), Agger (Hyypia 46), Darby (Dossena 46), Leto, Mascherano, Plessis, Pennant, Voronin, Pacheco (Kuyt 74).
