"Lions" spring a surprise
TSV München 1860 edged out Arminia Bielefeld in a friendly test in Bad Reichenhall, with a new signing grabbing the winner.
The "Lions" hit the ground running, going in front through Daniel Bierofka after only five minutes. Three minutes later, the ball was in the net at the other end, only to be disallowed for a handball by Kampantais.
Proceeds for ice hall accident victims
Shortly before the break, Sibusiso Zuma was inches away from connecting for an almost certain equaliser, and the South African came close again in the dying minutes of the game.
The entire gate receipts from the match will go towards helping those affected by the Bad Reichenhall ice rink tragedy of 2 January 2006. Fifteen people died and more than 30 were injured when the roof of a local ice rink collapsed.
Starting line-ups
1860: 1 Hofmann - 16 Thorandt, 19 Ghvinianidze, 5 Berhalter, 4 Hoffmann - 8 D. Schwarz, 25 Ledgerwood - 11 Wolff, 10 Göktan, 7 Bierofka - 9 Di Salvo.
Bielefeld: 1 Hain - 6 Bollmann, 30 Fischer, 4 Gabriel, 41 Rodenberg - 29 Aigner, 40 Nkosi, 31 Kucera, 24 Ndjeng - 27 Kampantais, 22 Zuma.
Attendance: 2,500

Bielefeld finish training camp
For nine days, coach Ernst Middendorp gathered his players together in Walchsee. With specific goal-oriented training sessions and three friendly matches, he tried to instill the basics they need for the new Bundesliga season.
On Thursday July 19, the DSC players are going back home. After they completed their last training session under the Austrian sun, they packed their bags onto the bus heading to Munich, from where they will fly to Hanover.
When the the East Westphalians reach Bielefeld in the evening, they'll split up for just a few hours until the next practice session, which will be awaiting them on Friday morning on their home turf.

Zuma saves DSC from defeat
DSC Arminia Bielefeld and Czech first league team SK Kladno played to a deserved 1-1 draw in a friendly Wednesday evening.
Arminia started the match, which was delayed 30 minutes, in full stride and worked up significant momentum.
Masmanidis long shot missed its target in the 12th minute, but six minutes later Jörg Böhme broke away from Artur Wichniarek and passed to Sibusiso Zuma, who headed the ball in from a short distance.
Salicha changes the mood
Radek Selicha used a penalty shot in the 23rd minute to equalise for the guests. Afterwards, the squad that was placed eleventh in the tables last season played more loosely and it almost came to 2-1 just three minutes later if a great save by Mathias Hain hadn't been able stop a head ball from Jeslinek.
Even 2nd half
In the second half, the 2,500 spectators in the Bünde-Ennigloher Erich-Martens Stadium saw an evenly balanced match with chances for both sides.
Oliver Kirch missed from close up and then a flat, long shot by Iannis Masmanidis just failed to reach the back of the net. On the other side, Zacharias got one on one with Mathias Hain in der 75th minute but shot outside.
Line-up Arminia: Hain - Korzynietz (46th Bollmann), Mijatovic, Gabriel (60th Langkamp), Schuler - Kucera, Tesche (46th Kirch), Böhme (70th Ndjeng), Masmanidis - Zuma (70th Kamper), Wichniarek (60th Eigler)
Spectators: 2,500
Goals: 1:0 Zuma (18th min), 1:1 Selicha (23rd min)

Don't know how good this Czech team is, but I might say that this is not a good result for Bielefeld.

Bielefeld capture Nkosi
Arminia Bielefeld have signed midfielder Siyabonga Nkosi from Kaizer Chiefs for a fee of around 400 000 euros.
The 24-year-old South African has put pen to paper on a two-year contract with the option for a further year, and joins compatriots Sibusiso Zuma and Rowen Fernandez at the Schüco Arena.
According to Bielefeld coach Ernst Middendorp, Nkosi is at home both on the left and right of midfield, as well in a central, attacking role.
"He is not a typical African, he is a very purposeful player, who can both finish off moves as well as play in his team-mates," Middendorp explained.

Wichniarek und Kamper shoot Arminia further
Arminia Bielefeld are into the next round of the DFB Cup.
The team of coach Ernst Middendorp won 2:0 (1:0) at SV Seligenporten from Germany`s equivelant of the fifth division.
Artur Wichniarek opened the scoring in the 20th minute for Arminia who were keen to avoid a defeat against lower league opposition as they did last year (SC Pfullendorf - 1:2).
Jonas Kamper rubber stamped the victory in the 79th minute.

Marcelinho bullish for opener
Wolfsburg's Brazilian playmaker Marcelino is predicting a "great season" for the club as they open their Bundesliga campaign with a home clash against Arminia Bielefeld.
It has been a summer of change for the Wolves, who have not only spent heavily in the transfer market but also appointed former Bayern Munich boss Felix Magath as head coach.
Marcelinho has been handed the captain's armband, and the 32-year-old midfielder is eager to make something happen this year.
"If we get off to a good start and the first three games are successful, we can really achieve something," he said.
"There have been many changes in our team but if we do what the coach wants we will have a great season."
Wolfsburg need to overcome the absence of new signing Ricardo Costa after the defender ruptured knee ligaments, ruling him out of action for around six months.
Peter van der Heyden is also sidelined with a groin injury, but Magath is confident of success against Arminia.
"We want to play offensively and score goals," he revealed. "We did well in the most recent friendlies but all that matters now is Bielefeld."
Last season, Arminia started their impressive rise from the drop zone to safety with a 3-2 win in Wolfsburg - a result Magath has reminded his players of.
The former Bayern boss even sent a spy to watch Arminia's final training session, but coach Ernst Middendorp blew his cover.
"I noticed someone with an umbrella, a camera and a football magazine," a bemused Middendorp said.
"He was baffled when I approached him, gave him the line-ups and sent my best wishes to Felix. Looks like they take us very seriously.
"Marcelinho even said they will score three goals against us - I like this kind of underdog situation."
Arminia will be without left-back Tobias Rau (unfit), Rudiger Kauf (hip) and Leonidis Kampantais (ankle) on Saturday.

Poor debut for Magath
The first match for Felix Magath for Wolfsburg was way off the mark. A strong Arminia earns three points from Wolfsburg.
With the debut of Felix Magath as coach, sporting director and CEO, VfL Wolfsburg started off the season with a miserable showing.
Radu's goal forgettable
The Lower Saxons lost 1-3 (0-1) against Arminia Bielefeld in a horribly weak showing in their first Bundesliga match of the season.
Playing in front of 20,921 spectators in the VfL Arena Artur Wichniarek (38th min.), Christian Eigler (49th min.) and Oliver Kirch (81st. min.) all scored in the guest's well-earned victory. For Wolfsburg, only Ex-Cottbus player Sergiu Radu connected (84th min.).
Winless in seven matches
Going back to last season, the loss marks VfL's seventh occasion in a row that they've failed to gain three points, which also includes four straight home losses.
Magath, the management union-of-one, has turned his squad upside down by adding six new faces to the starting unit, but the changes seemed to have disrupted roster continuity and spoiled the team's chemistry.
Marcelinho ineffectual
With the new VfL captain Marcelinho a non-factor, Bielefeld capitalized on the initial insecurity of the hosts and played fresh from the beginning on. This paid off with a goal to take the lead by Wichniarek after a brilliant pass from Jörg Böhme.
Defensive mistakes
Even after the half and with some rejuvenation, the offensive play of Wolfsburg remained flat. Worse, their defence displayed glaring weaknesses, allowing Arminia to effortlessly extend their lead.

Arminia surprised everyone yesterday I believe.
Great win there. They've trashed Magath's Wolfsburg.
And, no one thought they would.
Def a good season start.
Well done!
