DSC Arminia Bielefeld goalkeeper Mathias Hain will miss his side's away match in Mainz on Saturday.

The 34 year old captain is down with fever.

Even worse: goalkeeper Marc Ziegler is also rated doubtful after suffering a back injury in training.

Formann debut?

Should Ziegler be ruled out as well, Pascal Formann will make his Bundesliga debut.

The 24 year old is normally keeping goal for Arminia reserves in the Oberliga.

Nils Fischer has signed a professional contract with DSC Arminia Bielefeld.

The 20-year-old has signed a contract until June 2010 that takes immediate effect.

Central defender

Fischer plays central defence for Arminia reserves.

He had already made the Bundesliga squad a few times, training regularly with the first team.

The Czech defender Petr Gabriel will not be able to play for DSC Arminia Bielefeld until around the middle of next week.

Gabriel has a torn tendon in his foot.

The severity of Radim Kucera s injury is still unclear.

Middendorp, who was sacked by South African side Kaiser Chiefs earlier this month, has agreed a deal at the Schuco-Arena through to June 2008.

Bad news for Arminia who will miss the services of their midfield general Radim Kucera in their match at Aachen.

The 33-year old Czech was unable to take part in the final training session on Friday morning and could only do some light running.

Just like his country fellowman Petr Gabriel, Kucera sustained the injury during his sides 1-0 defeat at Mainz.

Painful test

While Gabriel (foot injury) had long been ruled out for the match at Aachen, Kucera was meant to be eligible for the match after a scan hadn´t shown any serious problems

But despite Kucera not having ruptured a ligament his joint problems now appear bigger than originally assumed. After a last test Kucera complained about pain when trying to sidestep and jump.

Therefore it does not make sense to risk Kucera as these movements are elementary for the midfielder´s game, said Bielefeld´s assistant coach Dr. Jörg Weber.

30-year-old Marc Ziegler had suffered a hand injury in Wednesday's training session.

X-rays carried through by team doctor Dr. Michael Dickob on Thursday confirmed that Ziegler has broken a finger.

More examinations to follow

More examinations will show if Ziegler will be able to return to the training ground soon, wearing special splint and gloves.

But there's no way he will be able to play in Friday's friendly against 2. Bundesliga side SC Paderborn.
