Quote:
Schalke team manager Andreas Muller has confirmed that the Royal Blues would like to sign Arminia Bielefeld defender Heiko Westermann.
Muller told the club's official website that he had already informed Bielefeld of his interest and would be looking to start talks with the 23-year-old stopper in the near future.
"Westermann is an interesting player, who has come on in leaps and bounds;" he said.
"We want to talk to him before we make any concrete move, but we know we're not the only team interested in his signature."
Schalke can be expected to have to dig deep into their pockets for Westermann's signature as he is contracted at the Schuco Arena until 2008.
Meanwhile Muller revealed that he had granted midfielder Hamit Altintop time to consider his future after talking to his agent.
The German-born Turkish international has been tempted by an apparent offer from Turkish giants Galatasaray, but Muller says he now has until the end of March to decide whether to accept a new extended offer from the Bundesliga outfit or not.
"We want to keep Hamit here. It is definitely the best thing for him to do from a sporting point of view," he commented.

Arminia Bielefeld have drawn a friendly with Czech side Dynamo Budweis 1-1.
Taborsky gave the Czechs the lead against the run of play just after half-time.
Equaliser from the spot
Fatmir Vata was brought down ten minutes from time and Abdelaziz Ahanfouf equalised from the spot.
"I was completely satisfied with the way we played. But we didn't take our chances. We had four or five clear-cut chances. We should have won", Arminia head coach Thomas von Heesen said.
Arminia line-up: Hain - Korzynietz (Danneberg 63), Bollmann, Westermann, Schuler - Ndjeng (Kamper 63), Marx (Vata 70), Kauf (Kucera 46), Masmanidis (Kobylik 63) - Zuma (Eigler 46), Wichniarek (Ahanfouf 63).

On Thursday, Bernd Korzynietz extended his contract with DSC Arminia Bielefeld.
This follows Markus Schuler und Fatmir Vata, who extended their contracts with DSC during the winter training camp.
Contract until 2009
The defender signed a new contract valid to 2009 and limited exclusively to the Bundesliga. Korzynietz expressed his satisfaction afterwards.
"My family is very happy here in Bielefeld. And I'm happy to be able to play for the next few years for a club that is continually climbing to the top."

Well, I expected the draw. Hamburg can hardly win this season.

They made a great resistance though. They made it so difficult for Stuttgart.

Bielefeld keeps getting negative results. Another defeat, another home defeat for them, as they got beaten 3-1 from the visitors Bochum. Wichniarek scored for Bielefeld, but his goal didn't help.

Arminia midfielder Kucera back in training
Good news for Bielefeld head coach Frank Geideck: a veteran player will be back for the match against Cottbus.
Radim Kucera had suffered an elbow injury in the first match after the winter break (1-1 against HSV).
Now he is back in full training and could be back for the match against Cottbus, especially with Rüdiger Kauf serving an automatic suspension after picking up five yellow cards.
