Arminia Bielefeld's Petr Gabriel has found a new club.

The Czech returns to his home country after five years in Bielefeld.

In Prague next season

The central defender will play for Czech side Viktoria Zizkov next season.

The club from Prague has finished tenth in the Gambrinus League this season.

Back on the training ground

The summer break is over for Arminia Bielefeld's first team. The Bundesliga side started their preparations for the new season on Monday.

All Arminia players were around on Monday, Rowen Fernandez - who is on international duty with South Arica - aside.

Halfar scores first goal

A running exercise was followed by easy ball practice and 5 against 2, before a training match produced Daniel Halfar as Arminia's first goalscorer in 2008/09.

Michael Frontzeck had four new signings around, but most of them are no strangers to him.

Eilhoff back from Koblenz

The Arminia coach knows Nico Herzig from his spell at Alemannia Aachen, Zlatko Janjic and Maik Rodenberg have made the step up from the reserves. Dennis Eilhoff has returned from a two-year loan spell with TuS Koblenz.

There could be more in and outs, according to Frontzeck, with Delron Buckley (Borussia Dortmund) a possible candifate.

Defender undergoes surgery

Arminia Bielefeld defender Andre Mijatovic underwent surgery in Cologne this week.

Dr. Peter Schäferhoff removed a part of the left inner meniscus in the keyhole surgery.

The operation had deemed necessary after the central defender were only able to do running exercises in the Arminia training camp in Borkum.

Out for at least three weeks

The 28-year-old is already in rehab and working for his comeback.

He is expected to return to team training in three or four weeks.

Arminia won their second test match more than convincingly, even though the home defence did well in the first half an hour.

Only when Artur Wichniarek made it 2-0 with a brilliant back-heel the goals started to come.

New signing Zlatko Janjic was the only player to play the full 90 minutes, and the Finnish international bagged a brace.

Arminia won the 156th city derby against Fichte, but the hosts started really well with only Thilo Versick (21) getting on the scoresheet for the Bundesliga side inside the opening 45 minutes..

Fichte then had two good opportunities to equalise early in the second half before Daniel Halfar made it 2-0 (55).

Arminia Bielefeld's first match at their Austrian training camp ended all-square against Greek league runners-up AEK. Robert Tesche headed Bielfeld level in the 58th minute.

AEK went in front through new Argentinian signing Ignacio Scocco 22 minutes into a bracing first half. Michael Frontzeck as usual sent out an almost completely different line-up for the second 45, and Arminia's greater urgency was rewarded when Teschke headed home a Daniel Halfar corner.

New striker for Arminia

Christopher Katongo's move from Bröndby IF to Arminia Bielefeld is confirmed.

He has signed a three-year deal with Arminia and will wear the number 10 shirt.

"We have prepared Chris Katongo's transfer for a while. We will get a grown player who can help us on the pitch and fits in regarding his character. He can play anywhere up front in various systems", DSC sporting director Detlev Dammeier commented.

Injury worries for Frontzeck

DSC Arminia Bielefeld travel to fifth-flight club ASV Durlach on Sunday.

Head coach Michael Frontzeck will have to make do without several players in the match in the suburbs of Karlsruhe.

Kamper suspended

Central defenders Nico Herzig (torn muscle) and Andre Mijatovic (rehab) are injured. Radim Kucera and Markus Bollmann are expected to take their places.

Jonas Kamper is still suspended for one game after being sent off in Jena last season, and Leonidas (ankle) is out as well.

The fifth-flight hosts had the first decent opportunity when Christian Perchio (22) saw his penalty saved by Arminia keeper Rowen Fernandez.

Artur Wichniarek in first-half injury-time and Berat Sadik (51) put Arminia in the driving seat.

The Karlsruhe-based minnows never gave up, however, and Murat Cetinkaya (77) halved the deficit from the spot.

Bielefeld goalkeeper doubtful

The knee of Arminia Bielefeld goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez was the subject of extensive examinations on Monday.



The diagnosis: the South African has suffered a severe bruise which makes him a major doubt for Bielefeld's Bundesliga opener against Werder Bremen on Saturday.

"Really annoying"

"That's really annoying", said Fernandez, who picked up the injury when he fouled Durlach striker Zimmermann in the DFB Cup 1st round win.

"Spiderman" was able to parry the resulting penalty, but he had to be substituted afterwards.
