Default Jonas looks to de-Kamp

Arminia Bielefeld winger Jonas Kamper has revealed he is looking for a new club after having become frustrated at his lack of playing time at the Bundesliga club.

The 24-year-old - who has been capped once by Denmark - has become increasingly unhappy with his place on the bench this season and says he is looking for a move to the Premier League or Serie A.

Kamper's current contract with Bielefeld expires in 18 months time, but the former Brondby player would welcome an early exit.

"I know that both British and Italian clubs are interested and Bielefeld know that too," Kamper told 24timer.

"I am not hiding the fact that I would love to got to England. The Premier League would suit me perfectly."

Default "We always fight against relegation"

Rüdiger Kauf bagged the equaliser for Arminia Bielefeld in the 3-1 win over 1. FC Nürnberg - his first headed goal in 133 Bundesliga matches!

bundesliga.de talked to Kauf about that goal, the situation at Arminia and his nick-name "Rübe" (carrot).

bundesliga.de: Rüdiger Kauf, congratulations on your first headed goal. Did you expect that after such a long time?

Rüdiger Kauf: No, not really, but all the better! I saw Jonas Kamper breaking through on the right, and thought: well, someone should be in there.

bundesliga.de: And with no one of the usual suspects around, you decided to take over?

Kauf: (laughs): indeed!

bundesliga.de: Bielefeld have made a bright start - just like last season - but then came seven successive matches without a win, ended by the 3-1 victory over Nuremberg. How do you explain these ups and downs?

Kauf: If it would be easy to explain we'd do something to cut it out. But you always have to be aware that we're Arminia Bielefeld, not one of the teams aiming for Europe. Our budget is one of the smallest, so you have to be aware that we always fight against relegation.

bundesliga.de: Is it true that you do the hoovering at home?

Kauf: Well, if I have to do something in the household, I'll do it.

bundesliga.de: For Arminia you're also the "vacuum cleaner" in front of the defence. A lot of teams play with two players in front of the defence nowadays, Arminia don't. Why not?

Kauf: We played with two holding midfielders earlier on, but not lately. It's the coach's decision, I can't talk about tactics. The coach has to decide which system's being played, and we'll play whatever the coach wants.

bundesliga.de: In former times play-makers and goal-getter were getting most of the praise, nowadays "Sixers" like Patrick Vieira, Andrea Pirlo or Torsten Frings are in the limelight, too. What do you make of that development?

Kauf: Goal-getters surely receive more credit, but by now all players get the popularity they deserve, and that's all right.

bundesliga.de: Who came up with your nick-name "Rübe" (carrot)?

Kauf: I was three or four years old when I started to play football. My cousin was searching for a nick-name and came up with "Rübe".

bundesliga.de: Your contract expires in 2008. Would you like to carry on playing for Arminia?

Kauf: Yes, I'm comfortable here and I've build up something here, together with others like Mathias Hain. But I don't like to talk about contract details, and that's not important at the moment anyway. First of all we have to perform again as a team and get some points on board until the winter break.

bundesliga.de: Ernst Middendorp took over on March 14 and saved Arminia from relegation. What sort of a coach is he?

Kauf: Back then he woke up the team and the whole club, and at the end we avoided relegation confidently. He has his methods in training, puts emphasis on certain things and sometimes raises his voice. Success proves him right, but I don't think that training at other Bundesliga sides is so much different.

bundesliga.de: Next up it's Bochum, and VfL are on a high too after winning two successive matches. Who will have the better mood ahead of the match?

Kauf: That's hard to say. Bochum are playing at home, and home matches are even more crucial in the fight against the drop. That's why Bochum will be under even more pressure. I could imagine that we could pick up something there.

Bundesliga, Matchday 14 PREVIEW
VfL Bochum - Arminia Bielefeld

VfL have climbed into twelfth place with two successive victories. Head coach Marcel Koller is expected to stick to Rene Renno in goal - but that's not dead certain.

"We have won two matches with Rene. That certainly offers a good position for him - perhaps even the pole position. Yet, the others have noticed as well that something is changing", Koller said.

14th-placed Arminia have bounced back from seven winless matches by beating 1. FC Nürnberg before the international break.

Arminia coach Ernst Middendorp has to make do without Daniel Halfar, Christian Eigler and Tobias Rau.

Default Arminia beaten in Bochum

Thanks to Marcin Mieciel's first two-goal-performance in the Bundesliga, VfL Bochum won its third straight and secured a spot in the middle of the standings.

The Polish striker scored the first and second goal in Bochum's 3-0 (2-0) victory in an Westphalian match up against Arminia Bielefeld, which continues to struggle on the road. The sixth game without a win away from home in a row puts coach Ernst Middendorp on the hot seat. Bielefeld has gotten only one point and was outscored 1:21 in those six games.

It didn't take Mieciel long to put Bochum on the right track. He scored his third and fourth goal of the season in the 12th and 15th minute, respectively. In front of a crowd of 20,478 Christoph Dabrowski sealed the deal in the 55th minute.

Bielefeld without five regulars

Stanislav Sestak assisted on Bochum's first two strikes, having no defender in his face coming over the right side. Mieciel had a chance for a hat trick, but his header in the 36th just missed the net.

Arminia didn't give up after Bochum's quick strikes, but the club looked too harmless in front of the opposing goal. Due to injury problems Middendorp had to replace many regulars. Daniel Halfar, Christian Eigler, and Tobias Rau missed the match as well as Markus Schuler and Mathias Hain. Both have been taken out of the lineup shortly before the game due to a flu. Rowen Fernandez replaced Hain in goal, giving his Bundesliga debut. He played well and it were his saves that kept Bochum from blowing the game even more open.

Zdebel won't play at Schalke

VfL coach Marcel Koller almost sent the same players on the pitch that won the previous two games, making only one change. Captain Tomasz Zdebel played after recovering from an injury, replacing Daniel Imhof. Zdebel though will not be able to play against local rival Schalke 04 next Saturday after picking up his fifth yellow card. Koller brought Imhof right after the break.

Dabrowski, who scored Bochum's third goal, had a chance earlier. But Fernandez denied his shot. On the other side Rene Renno, who again played in place of Jan Lastuvka, kept Bielefeld from scoring, making a nice save on Jörg Böhme's free kick in the 52nd minute. Just when the guest team was waking up, Dabrowski scored his second goal of the season.

While Bochum visits Schalke next weekend, Bielefeld hosts Bayern München.

Default Arminia loose at home to Mighty Bayern

The striker's score in the 22nd minute was good enough to beat Arminia 1-0 (1-0) and propel Bayern past Werder Bremen to regain first place in the Bundesliga table.

Kamper starts it off

Playing in front of 23,800 spectators in the sold-out Alm, Arminia attempted to brave the stormy elements and steady downpour and to take it to Bayern from the very start.

Just four minutes in, Jonas Kamper just missed on a free kick and then challenged Oliver Kahn with a shot from 20 metres out in the ninth minute.

Toni, Ribery, goal!

Bayern kept their cool, with Ribery taking a pass from Luca Toni and overwhelming Arminia goalie Mathias Hain. Ribery's score set the tone, as Bayern went on to control the first half and win.

Bielefeld seemed more comfortable at first in the atrocious weather conditions in front of 23,800 rain-drenched fans and thoroughly dominated the first 20 minutes, repeatedly testing Bayern captain Oliver Kahn.

Jonas Kamper was just wide with a crisp free kick in the fourth minute and then forced Kahn to his knees to fist away a dipping long-range blast five minutes later. A Sibusiso Zuma shot in the 20th minute bounced off the right post.

Bielefeld coach Ernst Mittendorp was pleased despite losing.

'It was an incredibly close match to the final whistle. I'm not at all disappointed. I think we played a fantastic match.'

Bielefeld's keeper Hain was injured in a collision just before halftime with Bayern striker Miroslav Klose. He managed to finish the half but was taken to hospital with concussion.

Dortmund 6-1 Bielefeld: Tinga sparks rout

Christmas came early for a goal-hungry Borussia Dortmund side as they stuck six past a woeful Arminia Bielefeld in the Westphalian derby.

Paulo Cesar Tinga gave the hosts the lead before Markus Schuler's own goal doubled their advantage.

Dortmund went goal-crazy in the second half with Mladen Petric nabbing the third before three goals in 12 minutes from Nelson Valdez, Florian Kringe and Giovanni Federico gave them an unassailable lead.

Dortmund keeper Roman Weidenfeller gifted a consolation goal to Oliver Kirch 10 minutes from time.

The hosts began piling on the pressure right from kick-off and took a deserved lead in the 13th minute.

Jakub Blaszczykowski picked up Kringe's defence-splitting pass and crossed the ball to Tinga who fired it into the bottom left corner from 12 yards.

Bielefeld strove for an equaliser but it was never going to be easy for a team who have only scored four times on their travels

And five minutes later the hosts doubled their advantage.

Petric beat the offside trap and went on a great run down the left-hand side before putting in a low cross which the unfortunate Schuler turned into his own net.

And there was worse to come for Bielefeld as just two minutes after the restart Petric headed Dede's cross into the top-left corner from the edge of the six-yard box.

In the 55th minute the visitors hammered the nail in their own coffin as Petr Gabriel was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area.

Valdez stepped up to the spot and put the penalty right down the middle as keeper Rowen Fernandez dove to his right.

Bielefeld seemed to collapse and on the hour mark the hosts went even further ahead with Kringe tapping in Petric's cross from six yards out.

And seven minutes later they sent the home fans into raptures as Federico dribbled his way past the woeful Bielefeld defence before firing into the bottom right corner for the sixth of the night.

The thrashing was no surprise for a team who had conceded 22 goals on their travels - by far the worst in the Bundesliga - but Bielefeld did manage to pull one back in the 80th minute.

Weidenfeller seemed to have caught Kirch's tame shot but the ball somehow slipped through his legs and into the back of the net.

Thrashed badly once again.

Werder scored 8 against them in a game earlier this season.

Default Bielefeld sack coach Middendorp!

Bundesliga strugglers Arminia Bielefeld have parted company with coach Ernst Middendorp.

The club confirmed the decision in a press conference on Monday just days after Arminia suffered a 6-1 thrashing at local rivals Borussia Dortmund.

Middendorp, who joined Bielefeld for his third stint as coach in March of this year and saved the club from relegation, was contracted at the Schuco Arena until 2009.

The current season started in impressive fashion, but a series of poor results has led to the Westphalia outfit plummeting to 15th in the Bundesliga.

Arminia managing director Reinhard Saftig told a news conference: "The facts don't lie, we have only five points from the last 11 matches.

"I don't even want to start counting up the goals we've allowed.

"There were matches there that I didn't think it could get any worse, but it did."

Amateur team coach and former midfielder Detlev Dammaier will take over the reins for the club's final league match before the winter break at home to Stuttgart on Saturday.
