Hoffenheim win promotion to the Bundesliga

Quote:
1899 Hoffenheim have won promotion to the Bundesliga on the final day with an emphatic win over Fürth.

1899 Hoffenheim 5-0 SpVgg Greuther Fürth

Hoffenheim are the smallest ever village in the Bundesliga next season thanks to the emphatic win over Fürth.

Ralf Rangnick's team are only the sixth team to have made it from the third into the top flight in the first season. Rangnick had already done the trick with SSV Ulm.

Demba Ba opened the scoring with his twelfth of the season six minutes before half-time.

It was a close affair for a long time, but second-half braces from Sejad Salihovic (69, pen / 83) and Chinedu Obasi (77 /85, pen) gave Hoffenheim an emphatic victory.

Default 1899 % top flight!

1899 Hoffenheim have wasted no time on their way into the Bundesliga.

Last season 1899 finished second in the Regional League South to win promotion to the 2. Bundesliga.

A 5-0 win over SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Sunday has now made sure that 1899 will play in the Bundesliga next season, thanks to a second-place finish in their first ever 2. Bundesliga season.

bundesliga.de explains Hoffenheim's success and introduces the small village.

The village: Hoffenheim
Hoffenheim lies in the region Kraichgau and is a district of the city Sinsheim in South-West Germany. More popular cities in the proximity include Heilbronn, Karlsruhe, Mannheim and Heidelberg. The village itself has less than 3,500 inhabitants, making Hoffenheim the smallest village ever to boast a Bundesliga club.

The patron: Dietmar Hopp
He is undoubtedly the main reason for Hoffenheim's rise to the Bundesliga: Dietmar Hopp. One of the founders of software company SAP, Hopp is considered as one of the richest Germans. A former lower-league player for Hoffenheim, Heidelberg-born Hopp financially supports 1899. The billionaire also supports young talent in golf, ice hockey and handball. His Dietmar-Hopp-Stiftung, founded in 1995, is one of the biggest foundations in Europe. Its tasks are medicine, education, social institutions and youth sports.

The coach: Ralf Rangnick
49-year-old Rangnick is an old acquaintance of the Bundesliga, having already coached VfB Stuttgart, Hannover 96 and FC Schalke 04 in the top flight. He led Hanover into the Bundesliga in 2002 in a season that saw 96 score a 2. Bundesliga record 93 goals. He led Schalke 04 into second place and into the DFB Cup final in 2004/05. His move to Hoffenheim was announced on June 22, 2006 - and he has guided Hoffenheim from the Regional League to the Bundesliga in just two seasons.

The "magician": Bernhard Peters
Peters (R, with Ralf Rangnick) established a reputation in field hockey, guiding the German national team to two World Championships in 2002 and 2006. The German football fans got to know Peters when German national team coach Jürgen Klinsmann put him forward for the job of DFB sporting director in 2006, but that never materialised. Instead Peters moved to Hoffenheim on October 15, 2006, being appointed as Director for sport and promotion of young players.

The future: the Youth Academy
It has never been the club's policy to rely on experienced and costly stars. 1899 have invested a lot of money in a youth academy instead. Success seems to be just around the corner: the Under-19s and Under-17s already play in the respective Youth Bundesliga.

The veteran: Francisco Copado
He is one of the experienced exceptions every young team needs: Francisco Copado. The versatile midfielder had already played Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga football for Hamburger SV (1993 - 96), Tennis Borussia Berlin (1998 - 2000), SpVgg Unterhaching (2000 - 05) and Eintracht Frankfurt (2005 - 06) when he made the move to Hoffenheim in August 2006. He has played a big part in the two promotions, scoring 24 goals in two seasons and leading the younger players.

The boost: new signings
1899 had problems to get going this season, picking up just a single point from their first four matches. The club reacted and brought in three additional players in late August: Chinedu Obasi, Demba Ba (pictured) and Carlos Eduardo. The three have played a big part in Hoffenheim's rise up the standings. Strikers Ba and Obasi have scored twelve goals each, Carlos Eduardo has been pulling the strings in midfield.

The marching-through: number six
Hoffenheim are the sixth club to have done the "marching-through" from the third flight into the Bundesliga. The other five clubs to have reached the Bundesliga with two successive promotions had been TSV 1860 München (1993, 94), Fortuna Düsseldorf (1994, 95), Arminia Bielefeld (1995, 96), 1. FC Nürnberg (1997, 98) and SSV Ulm (1998, 99). And guess who coached SSV Ulm nine years ago in three quarters of their promotion season: Ralf Rangnick.

The new stadium: from January 2009
1899 played in the Dietmar-Hopp-Stadion this season, but the arena - holding just 6,350 spectators - will be too small for Bundesliga football. The construction of a new stadium, called Rhein-Neckar-Arena and situated in Sinsheim, is already under way. The stadium will host 30,500 fans and shall be completed in early 2009. Home matches during the first half of the Bundesliga season are likely to be played in Mannheim's Carl-Benz-Stadion.

New jersey sponsor for promoted club

TV Digital is the new main and jersey sponsor of newly-promoted Bundesliga side 1899 Hoffenheim.

On Thursday, the two parties sealed the deal, which will officially take effect on July 1, 2008. The cooperation is set to continue until the end of the 2009-2010 season. Besides the jersey sponsoring, it includes all standard advertising usage rights, such as ad spaces in the stadium and title usage rights.

"Geared towards success, growth and the future"

The TV Digital logo will decorate the jerseys of coach Ralf Rangnick's team starting this summer. Jochen Beckmann, Publishing Director at Axel Springer, said that "TV Digital and 1899 Hoffenheim are two brands that have been successful over the past years and therefore go together perfectly. Both partners are geared towards success, growth and the future. We're looking forward to a fruitful partnership."

1899 Hoffenheim Executive Director Jochen A. Rotthaus said that "after our brilliant journey from the regional league to the Bundesliga, it was important to find an ambitious and well-known brand with media strength such as TV Digital to be our main and jersey sponsor. We're convinced both sides will profit from TV Digital's professionalism and strengths."

Hoffenheim sign VfB player

Quote:
Andreas Beck is transferring from VfB Stuttgart to newly promoted 1899 Hoffenheim with immediate effect.

Neither party have released the details of the fee involved in the deal. The 21 year old, who had been at VfB since July 2000, made 27 Bundesliga appearances for Stuttgart and scored one goal.

The right full-back has also won 16 international caps with the German U21's.

This morning, after breakfast, Beck said goodbye to his VfB colleagues and departed the training camp in Donaueschingen.

A sensible solution

On the subject of the transfer of Beck, VfB team manager Horst Heldt commented: "Hoffenheim stepped up their efforts to sign Andreas Beck over the past few days. Having had several rounds of negotiations we eventually came to an agreement on the transfer details. That's why we allowed Andi to make this move, which is a sensible solution for all involved."

On his departure Andreas Beck said: "This wasn't an easy decision for me to make, having spent eight very happy years with VfB and crowned that with the championship win in 2007. In spite of that, I see a better opportunity for my further development in Hoffenheim."

Hoffenheim won 3-1 yesterday against Prem side Blackburn Rovers. Good win in a good test.

Quote:
Blackburn crashed to a 3-1 defeat to Bundesliga newcomers TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in a friendly in Austria on Monday night.

After a goalless first half, which saw Morten Gamst Pedersen pick up an injury, Rovers boss Paul Ince made a host of substitutions with Robbie Fowler coming on for his Rovers debut.

And it was Hoffenheim who took the lead six minutes into the second half when Christoph Janker followed up after Jason Brown saved a header.

Benni McCarthy's 63rd-minute volley drew Rovers level but two minutes later Matthias Jaissle's header just squeezed beyond Brown to give the Germans the lead again.

And in the final minute Janker grabbed his second to ensure victory for Hoffenheim.

1899 Hoffenheim Seek Sobis

Quote:
Newly promoted German outfit 1899 Hoffenheim is planning an ambitious move to snap up Real Betis star, Rafael Sobis.
The modest Bundesliga side are showing no signs of slowing down in their quest to revolutionize the club. The “Hoffe”, as they are known, have gone from the regional league to the top flight of German football, for the first time in their history, in just a space of two seasons.

And the club are now looking to strengthen their squad to compete against the country’s heavyweights, with manager Ralf Rangnick setting his sights on Real Betis’ unsettled Brazilian forward, Rafael Sobis.

Betis are eager to offload the diminutive 23 year old and according to Marca, the player’s agent Jorge Machado has brought in a €7.5 million offer from Hoffenheim to the table, although Los Verdiblancos are holding out for at least €9 million.

But it is believed that club owner Manuel Ruiz de Lopera wants €10 million for the Brazilian so that they can make a move themselves for Frenchman Jimmy Briand of Rennes. The powerful 22 year old is a player that coach Paco Chaparro has personally requested and Lopera is happy to oblige, provided they can first sell Sobis for a substantial amount.

Sobis joined Betis from Internacional in 2006 for a whopping €24 million on an eight year contract. Despite being tipped as one of the brightest young stars of the future, he has never been able to shine with the modest Andalucian side, racking up 57 appearances and just eight goals in two seasons.

Ibisevic is with Hoffenheim now? That's good, he gets to play in Bundesliga 1 again.

ps. I know some of his friends here where I live,(not Albania) and he use to play soccer in high school (the same high school where I use to go) before he went to Germany with Aachen.

Bundesliga Season Preview: 1899 Hoffenheim

Quote:
With the start of a very exciting Bundesliga season upon us, Goal.com previews two teams daily as a part of our build-up. Will the 1899 Hoffenheim fairy tale have a happy ending?

It’s a rags to riches tale that you rarely see it football nowadays. 1899 Hoffenheim have risen from the seventh division in Germany to the Bundesliga with the financial backing of a former player made good. Now in the big pond, will they sink or swim?

Minnows On The Big Stage

Never before has a club from such a small town appeared in the German top flight. Hoffenheim is a small district of Sinsheim in Baden-Württemberg situated between Heilbronn and Mannheim and has a population of just 3300. They have quickly been dubbed the “richest village team” in the world following the investment of IT billionaire Dietmar Hopp.

Hopp a former striker with the club, made his money as co-founder of software giant SAP and is now one of Germany’s richest men. It all started back in 1989 when football-mad Hopp donated 10,000 German marks to the club he used to play for so that they could buy balls, track suits and other items. The rest as they say is history as they have risen beyond even their own projections into the top division.

Last season saw the club playing their home games at the Dietmar Hopp Stadion with a capacity of just 6,250. The ambitions of the club are such that a new stadium is to be built in Sinsheim with a 30,000 capacity suitable for Bundesliga football. Until it is completed in January 2009, they will play their homes games at the 26,300 capacity Carl Benz Stadion in nearby Mannheim.

Surprise Package?

Trainer Ralf Rangnick will largely rely upon the squad that performed so well last season in gaining promotion with one or two acquisitions in key areas. Goalkeeper Ramazan Özcan has been signed from Red Bull Salzburg fresh from being Austria’s third choice keeper at Euro 2008. He may very well be a very busy man in his first season at the club with the defence in front of him severely tested.

Youngster Andreas Beck arrives from Stuttgart and his Bundesliga experience will be valuable to a side more used to the Regionalliga and below. Brazilian midfielder Luiz Gustavo impressed enough last season on loan from Corinthians Alagoano to make the move a permanent one.

The defence should see former Mönchengladbach centre back Marvin Compper partner Swedish international Per Nilsson in the centre with Beck at right-back and possibly Hungarian Zsolt Löw at left back. Alternatives would be Austrian international Andreas Ibertsberger, Matthias Jaissle, Christoph Janker or Ghanaian Isaac Vorsah.

Hoffenheim’s ambitions were made abundantly clear when they signed highly rated attacking left sided midfielder Carlos Eduardo for €8 million from Gremio last season. He rose to prominence in the Brazilian youth teams alongside Lucas, who is now at Liverpool and is a key member of the midfield. Meanwhile, Bosnian international Sejad Salihovic was voted the best midfielder in the first half of last season and contributed a large part to the club’s eventual promotion.

The other options in midfield are former Schalke player Jochen Seitz, Dragan Paljic, and Tobias Weis.

African strike duo Demba Ba and Chinedu Obasi form the attacking line for the newly promoted side. Senegalese Ba scored 12 goals in the promotion campaign while Nigerian Obasi matched his total. Obasi however will miss the start of the season while on Olympic duty with his country. The alternatives are the well-travelled Spaniard Francisco Copado and Bosnian Vedad Ibisevic. Brazilian Wellington has also arrived at the club to add some extra firepower and take the Samba contingent to three.

Hoffenhe
