Eintracht Frankfurt have confirmed that they may make another bid for Swiss youngster Xavier Margairaz when the transfer window reopens this winter.

Eintracht's managing director Heribert Bruchhagen admitted that the club had failed to land 22-year-old FC Zurich midfielder last summer, but stressed that he is keen to make a second attempt.

"We made an enquiry in July or August and it's not a secret that we have continued to watch him," claimed Bruchhagen. Margairaz is tied to FC Zurich until next summer, but the Swiss champions could be tempted to cash in on the prominent youngster in January rather than risk losing him for free next summer.

Should the Eagles lure Margairaz to the Commerzbank-Arena, the central midfielder would be able to line up alongside Swiss compatriots Christoph Spycher and

20 year old striker Marcel Heller will transfer from the Regional club Sportfreunden Siegen to Eintracht Franfurt in the new year.


The speedy striker is 1.76 meters tall and weighs 70 kilos. Heller's contract will run until June 30, 2010 and will join the club on January 1, 2007.

Marcel Heller transferred to Sportfreunden Siegen before the season began from Alemannia Aachen II and scored five goals in his 13 matches for the Regional League team.

Eintracht's Club President Heribert Bruchhagen said: "Marcel will be built up slowly with our team and he's also licensed to play on our Under-23 team."

No details of the terms of the transfer were released by either of the two clubs.

Frankfurt have extended the contracts of both Ioannis Amanatidis and Alex Meier as the Bundesliga outfit prepare for a UEFA Cup clash with Celta Vigo.

Greek striker Amanatidis, who has been on terrific form so far this season, has already netted four times in domestic competition and signed a new deal that will keep him at the Commerzbankarena until 2010.

Coach Friedhelm Funkel also offered an extension until 2010 to 23-year-old midfielder Meier.

Frankfurt are languishing in 13th place in the Bundesliga with just one win from nine games, and are bottom of UEFA Cup Group H after losing to Palermo in their opening match.

The DFB disciplinary panel have handed the Eintracht Frankfurt defender a two-match suspension.


One day before his 27th birthday, Vasoski was handed a two-match suspension following his third sending-off of the season.

Professional foul

Eintracht Frankfurt will have to make do without Vasoski against Borussia Dortmund on November 25th and at Alemannia Aachen on December 3rd.

The Macedonian international had been sent off in the Hessians' 4-3 defeat at VfL Bochum on Friday for a professional foul on VfL striker Theofanis Gekas.

Third sending-off

He was also sent off for two bookable offences in Mainz on matchdray three and in Munich on matchday nine, making him the first ever Bundesliga player to collect three sending-offs on the first 13 matchdays of a season.

Vasoski himself was inconsolable after his sending-off in Bochum. "I have never been sent off since the summer. I'm having sleepless nights. I'm going to apologize to my team-mates", Vasoski said.

Eintracht Frankfurt coach Friedhelm Funkel has confirmed Markus Proll as his first choice goalkeeper.

Proll has been out of action for four weeks with a rib injury, but Funkel has confirmed that he will replace former number one Oka Nikolov between the posts when Frankfurt entertain Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.

"Markus has played a great season. He is still my number one and I don't see any reason to change this," Funkel commented.

He also confirmed that the club will be starting new contract talks with Proll at the start of December. The former Cologne keeper's current deal at the Commerzbank Arena expires at the end of the season.

Meanwhile the Eintracht boss will need to reshuffle his defence against BVB following the suspension of Alexander Vasoski.

Former German international Marko Rehmer looks set to return after his injury lay-off, whilst youngster Marco Russ could replace out-of-form Greek international Sortirios Kyrgiakos.

Michael Thurk, meanwhile, will be out of action for two weeks after the striker damaged a thigh in training this week.
