Bundesliga side FC Energie Cottbus will have to make do without goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel in their match against Alemannia Aachen today.

Energie's number two keeper suffered a concussion in training and won't make the squad.

Thoms in as replacement

Andre Thoms takes his place in the 18-man squad.

Left back Mario Cvitanovic missed the final training session on Friday with flu, but he is available for today's match.

Last week Cottbus got a great away victory beating Dortmund, but this week they got defeated in their home.

Tomislav Piplica, goalkeeper of FC Energie Cottbus, was injured in his side's 2-0 defeat against Bundesliga rivals Alemannia Aachen.

Piplica suffered a concussion when he tried to stop Sergio Pinto from making it 2-0 but clashed into team-mate Steffen Baumgart.

"We ordered him to rest for two days. We hope that he will be able to return to training afterwards", club doctor Dr. Hartmut Thamke said.

Two goalies, two concussions

Thursday's training session had seen second choice goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel suffer a concussion, too.

He missed the match against Aachen and is expected back in training next week.

After suffering a concussion in the game against Alemannia Aachen, Tomislav Piplica will have to sit out the clash with Hertha Berlin.

Piplica underwent neurological tests on Tuesday and doctors subsequently ruled that the 37-year old keeper was not yet fit to return to training.

That means Piplica will miss this Friday's Berlin-Brandenburg derby against Hertha BSC (k.o. 20:30). The Energie goalie was briefly knocked unconscious following a collision with Steffen Baumgart in the dying seconds of the Alemannia game.

Doctors will monitor Piplica's progress over the next few days before deciding when he can resume training.

Falko Götz (Hertha): We have seen home games here in Berlin where we won without playing well; tonight it was the other way round. We played okay but failed to score. My team battled hard and tried everything. I can't fault the team for their effort. We have to work hard to gain success.

Energie Cottbus goalkeeper Tomislav Piplica has rejoined full training with the team after recovering from injury.

Having been out for a week after suffering a concussion, Piplica was given the green light by doctors to resume training.

Collision with Baumgart

The keeper was concussed late on in the game against Alemannia Aachen, following a collision with Steffen Baumgart.

Knock-on effects from the injury kept him sidelined from the last round of fixtures.

Energie Cottbus's Zoltan Szelesi is banned for three Bundesliga matches for head butting an opponent. The DFB say that television evidence shows Szelesi head-butting Hertha Berlin's Kevin-Prince Boateng in match played earlier this month.

Crowd favourite Steffen Baumgart will continue to play for Bundesliga side FC Energie Cottbus.

Energie took their option on Tuesday, extending the 35-year-old's contract until summer 2008.

More than 200 Bundesliga matches

"With his experience of more than 200 Bundesliga matches Steffen Baumgart is able to help our young players a great deal", sporting director Steffen Heidrich said.

Baumgart joined Energie from 1. FC Union Berlin in 2004. He has played 71 Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga matches for Cottbus since, scoring six goals.

Sebastian Schuppan will stay at Bundesliga side FC Energie Cottbus.

Energie made use of a one-sided option on Thursday, extending the 20 year midfielder's contract until 2008.

Two operations

"Sebastian is back on his way to full strength following a long-term injury. We will continue to give him chances to become a regular", sporting director Steffen Heidrich said.

Schuppan had joined Cottbus in 2001, aged 14. He has played 27 2. Bundesliga matches for Energie, but two meniscus operations at the start of this season have denied him a Bundesliga match so far.
