Golz back at HSV
Richard Golz has returned to Hamburger SV, signing a contract as youth goalkeeping coach.
Golz, who had played 273 Bundesliga matches for HSV between 1987 and 1998, put pen to paper on a three-year deal. He will also work for the coaching staff of HSV reserves.
"We are delighted that Richard returns to Hamburg. He will improve the work in the youth section with his experience", sporting director Dietmar Beiersdorfer said.
"HSV has always been a special club for me. It's not a decision against 96, but for HSV and my old home", Golz explained.

"A dream for every young player "
Dennis Aogo will make the move from SC Freiburg to Hamburger SV this summer. Read what he has to say about his transfer.
Question: You're still young. What were the decisive reasons for joining Hamburger SV?
Dennis Aogo: When I started my career aged 17, we lost 4-0 in Hamburg with SC Freiburg. Already back then the dream started to play for a club like HSV and with such a stadium. Wenn HSV came in for me I knew that I was going to come. It's a dream for every young player to play for such a club. I'm happy and delighted that it worked out.
Question: New HSV coach Martin Jol is a coach who banks on young players and develops them. Was that another reason to sign for HSV?
Aogo: Of course. But my decision already stood before HSV signed the new coach. I knew that HSV are a well-conducted and professional club. I often talked to a good friend of mine who already plays at HSV and had good informations that the club banks on young players. That's why there was no need for long considerations. I knew that I wanted to join HSV.

Newcastle Line Up Mathijsen
Quote:
Dutch defender Joris Mathijsen is wanted by a number of Premier League clubs with Newcastle, Blackburn and Sunderland all reportedly interested in signing the centre back.
Mathijsen, a Dutch international, currently plays for Bundesliga side Hamburg and is thought to be valued at around £10 million.
The defender featured prominently at Euro 2008, playing in both the group games against Italy and France and also the quarter final defeat to Russia, which saw Holland eliminated from the tournament.
The News of the World states that new Blackburn Rovers boss Paul Ince is eyeing up the defender but that he faces stiff competition from North East rivals Sunderland and Newcastle.
Newcastle would appear to be favourites to sign the 28 year old and their defensive frailties have been well documented in recent seasons.
However, centre back Steven Taylor has pledged his future to the club earlier this week by signing a new contract and Kevin Keegan obviously sees Mathijsen as the perfect partner for the captain of the England Under 21 side.
Newcastle have also tried Claudio Cacapa and Abdoulaye Faye in the centre of defence last season but neither have particularly made their position their own and manager Keegan will be looking for an improvement as he seeks to build on last season’s 12th place finish.

Chimbonda To Reunite With Jol?
Quote:
Hamburg manager Martin Jol is keen to sign Pascal Chimbonda for a second time, according to News of the World…
The Tottenham defender has long been linked with a move from White Hart Lane, increasingly so since the arrival of Scottish international Alan Hutton in January.
Chimbonda joined the north London club in 2006 after impressing Jol – then at Spurs – with his displays for Wigan Athletic, but the ex-Bastia man has failed to make much of an impression on new boss Juande Ramos.
Aston Villa have also been linked with 29-year-old, as they are in need of a new right-back following the departure of Olof Mellberg to Juventus.
Whoever is to win the one-time les Bleus star’s signature would have to pay at least ₤4million.

HSV back in action
Quote:
Bundesliga dinosaurs Hamburger SV are finally back on the ball.
Some 400 fans showed up at the HSH Nordbank Arena to have a first look at all the new faces, including new head coach Martin Jol.
Just 17 players around
The coaching staff had to be content with 17 players. Jonathan Pitroipa, Guy Demel, Tim Atouba, Rafael van der Vaart, Nigel de Jong, Joris Mathijsen and Piotr Trochowski are still on holiday.
Paolo Guerrero, Ivica Olic and David Jarolim will join the team on Monday afternoon, Romeo Castelen trained on his own and will follow in a few days.
Maxim Choupo-Moting is currently recovering from meniscus surgery.

No Beijing adventure for Kompany
Quote:
Vincent Kompany (22) won't take part in the Olympic Games in Beijing/China.
That was the outcome of talks between the Belgian and HSV sporting director Dietmar Beiersdorfer.
Odjidja-Ofoe taking part
The opening game against Brazil would have been on August 7, meaning that Kompany would have missed most of pre-season as well as the first round of the DFB Cup and HSV's Bundesliga opener against Bayern.
Kompany's team-mate Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe will be part of the Belgian squad in Beijing, however.

"HSV are a great club"
Quote:
Jonathan Pitroipa has finally arrived in Hamburg after taking an extended holiday due to the World Cup qualification matches with Burkina Faso.
Today he will participate in his first training session at the HSH Nordbank Arena. On Wednesday afternoon, the new acquisition had a quick look at his new workplace to find out his schedule for the upcoming days.
Before the speedy striker began immersing himself in the new system, hsv.de had a short interview at his hotel.
Question: Mr. Pitroipa, today is your first real day at HSV. How excited are you?
Jonathan Pitroipa: I'm really happy to finally be getting things going here with HSV. My transfer was settled a long time ago. For me, it's a big challenge and I am very excited about the new players and coaches.
Question: How much contact have you had with the coaches and the team?
Pitriopa: I haven't spoken with the coach, but I have talked to Guy Demel. That was after the Cup match, Freiburg against HSV last October. He told me a lot about the team and the club.
Question: Hopefully only good things?
Pitroipa: Of course. HSV are a great club, who play on an international level. The conditions are also really fantastic.
Question: In the Cup match, you not only set up the goal for Freiburg but also got a sense of the atmosphere in the stadium. What goals do you have at HSV?
Pitroipa: For me personally, I want to develop myself athletically and make the next step. I can learn a lot from the many good players here.

Hard work on and off the ball
Quote:
It rained non-stop during their first training session in Längenfeld (Ötztal), but that didn't dampen the spirits of the Hamburg players.
Alongside the obligatory fitness practice, coach Martin Jol had the squad working on their ball skills. "That's our philosophy", Jol said afterwards, while adding, "there will be plenty of off-the-ball work, too. It's all part and parcel of training." The first such session will be on Tuesday - at seven in the morning. "Then it's off into the woods for 45 minutes of interval training."
Striker Ivica Olic will be partaking of that too, having joined up with the rest of the squad on Monday evening. Olic's wife Natali has just given birth to a daughter, Lara.
Castelen in part-training
The recuperating Romeo Castelen will continue his build-up training with athletics coach Markus Günther. Jol meanwhile expressed his pleasure with the two new faces in the squad, former SC Freiburg duo Jonathan Pitroipa and Dennis Aogo.
"Aogo is still young, but he's got stuck right in, he's really engaged. As for Pitroipa, the coach has clearly been impressed by his "special qualties", his dribbling and his pace: "When Didi told me half the league was after him I thought he was going a bit over the top. But it's true, the lad is really good - we should all just make sure we don't get too carried away."

What do you guys think? Can Martin Jol lead HSV again into a top 4 finish?
They were strong at some period last season, but then their form dropped.
