Quote:
Hamburg coach Thomas Doll has been given full support from the club, despite a poor start to the season.
Following their 2-0 defeat at VFB Stuttgart, the team find themselves in 15th place in the Bundesliga with just nine points from 11 matches. Defeat in the German Cup as well as all four UEFA Champions League games has only placed more pressure on Doll.
Despite this, Hamburg’s sporting director Dietmar Beiersdorfer stated: “I don’t believe there is a better trainer for us.”
Doll himself has also made it quite clear he intends on staying and putting the situation right.
“Let me be clear about this, I am not going to resign," said Doll. "I believe the players are 100 percent behind me.”
Hamburg’s next league game is at home to Borussia Monchengladbach, after that they travel to face Schalke 04.

Hamburg SV will tomorrow leave for short training camp
Coach Thomas Doll´s team will, before their Bundesliga match at FSV Mainz 05 on Saturday, move into a sports hotel in the Taunus region.
There the North Germans, who are currently fifteenth in the league, will prepare for the difficult away encounter.
The training camp is designed for the team to pool their resources, and to conjure up team spirit. The HSV will go to the training camp straight after their training session in the AOL Arena on Wednesday afternoon.

Another injury
Bad luck for Hamburg SV yet again.
HSV defender Joris Mathijsen broke his nose during training on Tuesday.
Currently with the Dutch national team
Mathijsen was training with the Dutch national team squad who face England in a friendly on Wednesday.
"I hope that I will be able to face England, because I am not in much pain. I also hope to be able to play for HSV against Mainz in the Bundesliga on Saturday", said Mathijsen.

Hamburg SV Sporting director Dietmar Beiersdorfer spoke about the current situation ahead of the crucial clash at FSV Mainz 05.
Hamburg SV are currently in 15th place in the Bundesliga table after 12 rounds. Head coach Thomas Doll and his team travel to the Bruchweg stadium on Saturday (15:30 CET), where they take on bottom placed Mainz.
Question: Dietmar Beiersdorfer, how do you assess the current situation?
Dietmar Beiersdorfer: We have only collected 10 points after a third of the season which is nowhere near what we had expected. We have to climb up the table game by game. I presume everyone knows how serious things are.
Question: Can the poor start to the season be blamed on the awful injury situation at HSV?
Beiersdorfer: That plays a major role I am sure. In all the years I have been in the game I can never remember a club having so much bad luck through injury; but we can't change that. Despite those setbacks were were the better side in every Bundesliga game we have so far played, and should have taken a lot more points from those games.
Question: What has to happen now?
Beiersdorfer: We got together at the start of the week with Thomas Doll and his training staff to analyse the situation. We are totally convinced that if we stick together we can get our season back on track. Naturally there are suggestions of measures flying in from all sides, with everyone making them convinced they have the answer. But staying calm is also a measure. We have the right level of quality in our squad and we will fight our way out of trouble.

This is actually incredible. Big contrasts in the club if you are comparing season 05/06 with 06/07.
Yes, they have lost some key-players, but their performance right now is shocking.

The fact that they have many injuries isn't an excuse for their bad performances so far.
I think Doll should be fired.

They have a majestic stadium, great supporters and from one of the biggest cities in Europe...so they should perform better.
However, they did a great last season and they've not the biggest history in Europe football.
But this year, they're really on the moon.

Defender Joris Mathijsen will play at Mainz 05 on Saturday despite a broken nose.
The Dutch international played the full 90 minutes in Holland's friendly against England (1-1) on Wednesday.
"I had no problems, I'm feeling fine", the defender declared.
Reinhardt returns
Central defender Bastian Reinhardt is set for a return at the Stadion am Bruchweg after seven weeks at the sidelines. The 30 year-old had no problems while training with the team in a training camp in the German region Taunus.
Piotr Trochowski is still doubtful. The German international had to withdraw from Germany's Euro 2008 qualifier against Cyprus (1-1) with hamstring problems and the injury forced him to train with a special shoe.
Guerrero ruled out
Striker Paulo Geurrero is currently out with a strain, the Mainz match should come too early for him.
HSV head coach Thomas Doll definitely has to make do without long-term absentees Nigel de Jong, Guy Demel, Vincent Kompany and Juan Pablo Sorin.
