Striker Jon Dahl Tomasson has not only lost his place in VfB Stuttgart's starting line-up, he's also dogged by bad luck.

The 30 year old Dane suffered ligament damage in his left ankle and will be out for approximately two weeks.

Worse than expected

Tomasson had just returned to the training ground last week when he twisted his ankle. The injury was diagnosed as a ligament strain.

The striker was just on the brink of joining the Danish national team, so the MRI was carried through on the weekend. The result showed a slight tear.

Roberto Hilbert quickly forgot VfB Stuttgart's defeat at Bayern . Talking with bundesliga.de, he looks forward to the match against Gladbach.

bundesliga.de: Roberto Hilbert, do you think that the team will be down after losing to Bayern?

Roberto Hilbert: No, we were beaten by the best team in Germany. It's not a shame to lose there.

bundesliga.de: You're still high on confidence?

Hilbert: We're not only a strong team in terms of football, but also mentally. We have experienced players who rebuke the younger ones or offer a helping hand in difficult moments. I'm sure we will perform against Mönchengladbach and win the match.

bundesliga.de: You're playing right-back at the moment. Is it difficult for you to help out in defence?

Hilbert: I'm used to playing on the right wing, and I'm better there than at right-back. I still have to learn a lot of things in defence. But I thinks it's not permanent because Ricardo Osorio is our regular right-back. If he is fit, it's his place. But I don't care where the coach puts me - I always open the throttle.

bundesliga.de: You made the step up from the 2. Bundesliga in the summer. Did it take long for you to get used to the top flight?

Hilbert: Things were made easy for me. The team accepted me quickly. I felt at home at once. That made a lot of things easier, and there's no need to be afraid. It's great fun to play in this team. Things can still improve, that's clear. But so far, everything went very good for me.

VfB Stuttgart head coach Armin Veh is sweating over the fitness of Antonio da Silva ahead of Friday's match at FSV Mainz 05.

The Brazilian playmaker, who joined VfB from Mainz in the summer, is struggling with adductor problems.

Khedira and Bierofka miss out

Arthur Boka is doubtful, too. The in-form left-back is suffering from bruised ribs.

Sami Khedira and Daniel Bierofka are definitely ruled out of Friday's match.
