Schalke´s captain Marcelo Bordon has resumed training with the team and will be available for the table-topper's away match at Nuremberg.

The Brazilian had been out of action for three weeks with a hip injury.

Two players doubtful

There are doubts over Zlatan Bajramovic and Gustavo Varela for this coming weekend. While the Bosnian midfielder was not able to train on Tuesday because of a calf strain, the Uruguayan international has only been doing light individual training after rupturing a muscle fibre two weeks ago.

Ruhr rivals FC Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund clash on Sunday. bundesliga.de looks back upon famous matches in Gelsenkirchen.

Schalke have a positive record in their home matches against Dortmund. The "Royal Blues" have hosted the Black-Yellows 34 times in Bundesliga history. Schalke have won 14 of those, the Westphalians nine. Eleven matches have ended in draws, six of them goalless.

Schalke won first home match

The first Bundesliga match between the "Royal Blues" and the Black-Yellows was back in 1963-64, the opening season of the Bundesliga. Schalke won 3-1 in the stadium "Glückaufkampfbahn".

Reinhold Wosab had given BVB the lead. But Manfred Berz and Waldemar Gerhardt turned the tables before Dortmund's Lothar Geisler settled the match with an own goal.

S04 hammer BVB

Schalke celebrated their highest home win over their arch-rivals in the Parkstadion in the 1985-86 season when S04 scored six goals past BVB.

Schalke's supporters went wild with delight in the 6-1 win. Olaf Thon and Gerhard Kleppinger scored a brace each.

Six-pack in 1964

Older Dortmund fans will remember September 29th 1964.

Back then, BVB won 6-2 in Gelsenkirchen with Franz Brungs and Friedhelm Konietzka scoring two each.

Last home win five years ago

Schalke's last home win over Dortmund dates back to September 15th 2001.

It was the first Ruhr derby in Schalke's new Arena, and former Dortmund player Andreas Möller, of all people, scored the decisive goal.

Goalscorers miss out

The last away win for Dortmund came in the 2004-05 season when Sebastian Kehl and Lars Ricken scored for Bert van Marwijk's team.

However, both players will miss Sunday's derby through injury. And on Sunday, history counts for nothing.

61,524 fans in the sold out Veltins-Arena can look forward to thrilling 90 minutes.

Media reports in Hamburg claim that HSV are looking to make a move for out-of-favour Schalke goalkeeper Frank Rost.

Rost has been on the Schalke bench for several weeks after losing his place to youngster Manuel Neuer and Hamburg boss Thomas Doll could be looking to tempt him to the AOL Arena to help his club’s fight against relegation.

Both Sascha Kirschstein and Stefan Wachter have been anything but impressive for the Rothosen between the posts this season and a man of Rost’s experience and ability could bring much needed stability to the HSV back line in the spring.

Schalke do not appear ready to let the former Werder Bremen man leave, with general manager Andreas Muller reacting to the reports.

“It would be crazy for us to let such an experienced player go," said Muller.

“We need two good goalkeepers, we need Frank Rost.”

Muller did, however, add that he would consider a possible move should 'Frank look me in the eye and say that he wants to leave Schalke', thus firing the first shot in the possible upcoming transfer poker.

Schalke 04 will have to make do without Zlatan Bajramovic in the 128th Ruhr Derby against Borussia Dortmund on Sunday.

The Bosnian is ruled out with a calf injury.

Bordon suspended

He will be replaced be either Fabian Ernst or Lincoln.

In defence, Dario Rodriguez will step in for suspended captain Marcelo Bordon.

Schalke boss Mirko Slomka says the club have no intention of letting midfielder Hamit Altintop leave the club.

The Turkish international had been linked with a move to Borussia Monchengladbach after failing to hold down a berth in Slomka's starting line-up earlier this season, but the coach now says the Royal Blues are keen to extend his contract.

"We are not even thinking about letting Hamit go," he said on Wednesday.

"In fact the opposite is the truth. We want to continue working with him for a long time to come and want to extend his contract soon."

Gelsenkirchen-born Altintop joined Schalke from Wattenscheid in 2003. His twin brother Halil is also a member of the club's first-team squad.

Zlatan Bajramovic suffered an injury in Schalke's 1-0 victory at Arminia Bielefeld.

When Bajramovic came on as a 79th-minute substitute, the match started pretty bad for him.

"I tore a calf musle during my first sprint", the Bosnian said.

Stayed on injured

But Bajramovic had to stay on with head coach Mirko Slomka having already made three substitutions.

"I indicated that I was injured, and I was to stay at the back. But I joined the attack in one situation", Bajramovic tells.

Decisive goal

And that paid off when the midfielder headed Christian Pander's cross into the back of the net for the game's only goal.

"That was a great Christmas present", said Bajramovic.

Mirko Slomka's Schalke squad received a boost when the Bundesliga title pretenders agreed to sign Brazilian defender Gustavo on Monday.

The South American will complete his move from Parana Clube on January 1 in a deal that will see him stay at the Veltins Arena until the end of the 2008-09 season.

"We are happy that he has chosen us," said Schalke general manager Andreas Muller.

"Gustavo has a lot of potential, is very athletic and strong in the air."

The signing gives Schalke's title bid a real boost as they attempt to gain an advantage over leaders Werder Bremen, with whom they are level on points heading into the winter break.
