Maybe he just didn't fit in well.. happens to several players.

Look at Sevilla's L.Fabiano, he was crap for Porto, scored 2 goals from 28 matches and now is one of La liga's top scorers!

Porto could use an LB, I wouldn't mind giving Tosic a chance.

Werder Bremen are aiming to beat a host of clubs to the signature of Cruzeiro hot-shot Marcelo Moreno.

Moreno is regarded as one of the hottest properties in South America following his exploits for club and country over the last 12 months.

The 20-year-old has scored eight goals in this season's Copa Libertadores and his form has not gone unnoticed by Europe's top clubs.

Manchester United and Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk have been credited with an interest in Moreno.

English duo Tottenham and Manchester City are thought to have joined the chase for Moreno after scouting him in action.

However, Werder Bremen are hoping to steal a march on their English rivals by making a firm offer for Moreno as they look to lure the South American to the Weserstadion.

The Bolivian international is expected to make a decision on his future at the end of the Copa Libertadores with Cruzeiro unlikely to be able to resist any big-money offers for their prize asset.

Stürmer Ivan Klasnic wird Werder Bremen am Saisonende verlassen. Darüber informierte der 28-Jährige am Mittwochnachmittag die Geschäftsführung. Klaus Allofs, der mit dem kroatischen Nationalspieler bis zuletzt über eine Verlängerung des auslaufenden Vertrages verhandelt hatte, bedauerte die Entscheidung des Angreifers. "Wir hatten in den vergangenen Tagen unser Angebot noch ein weiteres Mal nachgebessert, doch er hat sich leider gegen eine Verlängerung entschieden. Wir hätten uns ein anderes Ergebnis gewünscht, denn Ivan ist ein hervorragender Stürmer, der seine Klasse nach seiner schweren Nierenerkrankung auch in dieser Saison wieder nachgewiesen hat. Wir akzeptieren die Entscheidung jedoch, nach sieben sportlich erfolgreichen gemeinsamen Jahren eine neue Herausforderung zu suchen und wünschen ihm für seinen weiteren Weg alles Gute."

Ivan Klasnic kam bereits 2001 zu den Grün-Weißen und gehört damit zu den dienstältesten Werder-Profis nach Frank Baumann und Tim Borowski. Der Stürmer, der im Sommer 2001 vom Zweitligisten FC St. Pauli an die Weser wechselte, absolvierte 150 Bundesligaspiele und schoss dabei 49 Tore. Zu seinen größten Erfolgen gehört der Gewinn des Doubles aus Meisterschaft und Pokalsieg im Jahr 2004.

It's an exciting week for Christian Vander.

Yesterday the goalkeeper extended his contract with Werder Bremen for two years, and on Saturday Vander will come in for number one goalkeeper Tim Wiese (knee problems) when Bremen play in Leverkusen.

Four matches this season

"I'm delighted to be able to prove my ability once again", Vander said. The 28-year-old had played his last competitive match for Werder reserves at the end of March.

The former Bochum player has already kept goal against MSV Duisburg and Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga this season, as well as in the Champions League against Olympiacos and Real Madrid.

Klasnic doubtful

Striker Ivan Klasnic missed Wednesday afternoon's training session, too.

"Ivan has problems with his shin bone, we'll have to wait and see", coach Thomas Schaaf explained.

Even though it is the last game of a very long season for both these sides, the three points are still extremely important. For a long while, Michael Skibbe’s up-and-coming young side were being touted as potential title contenders, but a slump after Christmas has seen them have to settle for a Uefa Cup battle. A few weeks ago they slipped out of the top five altogether, but now have one game to secure one of the two spots in Europe next season.

Four teams sit on 51 points at the moment but it could be argued that both Stuttgart and Hamburg have slightly easier matches and maybe hold the advantage. To miss out on Europe would be a huge disappointment to Bayer, and no doubt the calls for trainer Michael Skibbe’s head that were recently heard would resurface.

Werder will also be wondering what could have been after finishing neck and neck with Bayern Munich at the half way stage. A poor run of form directly after the winter break allowed the Bavarians to open up a lead which they have only extended since then.

Finishing second will still be a positive achievement for Werder and will spare them the qualification rounds in next season’s Champions League, which considering the trouble they had against Dinamo Zagreb earlier this season maybe just as well.

A solitary goal from Swede Markus Rosenberg ten minutes from time was enough to win this match and secure the runners up spot for Werder Bremen.

A fine pass from Klasnic to Frings started the move and the German midfielder played in the Swedish striker to coolly fire past Rene Adler and deny the Werkself European football next season.

Schaaf: “We need to reassess the squad”

With a hot cup of coffee and plenty of time on his hands, Thomas Schaaf was prepared for a longer session than usual as he faced the questions of the gathered journalists on Monday. The Werder coach had had two days to sit back calmly and consider the consequences of the ‘Million-Dollar-Match’ in Leverkusen.

...the team:“What the team achieved is fantastic. You really shouldn’t forget that we have quite a young team. Players like Mertesacker, Diego, Naldo and Almeida may all appear 35 - and sometimes I have to take a second look myself to check their ages - but they are all just young lads who are still developing.”

...the strengths and weaknesses displayed in the recently ended season:“We are quite an exceptional team so far as shots on goal and the manner in which we play football is concerned, but we want to improve upon that. It was often too easy for our opponents to score goals against us this season. There are some things which still need optimising.”

...future transfer activities:“We need to assess the squad. It’s clear that there are two players, who have proven their quality with top performances, that are leaving the club and it is becoming increasingly difficult to pad out the squad with players who will help us on the level which we are on. The number of such players does not exceed the demand from clubs who are pushing to sign them and so the sums involved are forced upwards. You can’t just get involved in every race though. It needs to be sensible as well as serious and the players need to be people who fit into our set-up. I hope to be able to continue to work along the lines of our philosophy. We want to be able to bring international players here in the future, develop them, bring them on and help them to achieve an identity.”
