Well Olympiakos won the league once again, AEK came 2nd and Panathinaikos came 3rd.

There was some controversy but I think it was solved. Basically when Olympiakos played Larissa (don't quote me on that) the other team hosted a player who had a domestic suspension and wasn't meant to play and the game originally ended in a loss/draw but then the Greek FA awarded the win to Olympiakos so they won the league due to these additional points.
Was gutted to lose the League on a technicality but what can you do.

PAOK_4 can you just confirm all that and that the decision went in Olympiakos's favour.

Then the new idea which all the managers signed, was that the teams positioned 2nd-5th would play in a play off tournament and the top team would get the 2nd CL place available, but they would still have to go through the qualifyinh stages. We also royally mucked that up as well...we lost some important games and so ended up 2nd and so are now in the UEFA cup.
I'm disappointed seeing as we came 2nd and that CL position should have been ours but i guess Demis signed it in case we didn't make 1st or 2nd.

The AEK players were also gutted that they lost the league on a technicality and they claimed that if they had to play in the play offs they would give it their all...but that is still no excuse for some of our poor results.

Well I am really pleased to say that AEK got Kyrgiakos

we also got Basinas which was a bit surprising as he played 199 games for Panathinaikos before going to Mallorca so the only reason I can see him coming to us is the money tbf

Well on the weekend AEK beat Panathinaikos 2-1. Edinho scored a great goal for us and then we got a dubious pen decision go our way and Blanco scored from the spot. In the dieing seconds of extra time in the 2nd half Karagounis scored a freekick which was clearly a lapse of concentration by our keeper.

Kyrgiakos looked solid winning pretty much every header in the air and Basinas looked gd to. The only disappointing this is that Dellas has moved to Anorthosis . Panathinaikos where really poor, especially 2nd half they just kept passing the ball aimlessly for a few mins and then when we shot from long distance their keeper would make a hash of it and barely keep the ball from crossing the line of the goal.

Jose Mourinho was in the box with Demis Nikolaidis (for now Chairman of AEK) and at the end of the match he had a massive smile on his face because he knows Inter will most likely cane them.

Another bit of sad news is that Demis will step down as Chairman halfway through this season, the reason being he apparently hasn't pleased the fans which I think is a lie but oh well...

Good singing IMO, it seems they can really use him.

Panathinaikos 0 Inter Milan 2

Inter Milan started their quest for Champions League glory with a fortunate 2-0 win at Panathinaikos.

Jose Mourinho's side went ahead through a Mancini goal in the 27th minute, but they were forced to defend for the remaining hour as the home side searched in vain for an equaliser.

Adriano then sealed the win in the 85th minute with his first touch of the game to give Inter all three points on a difficult night in the Greek capital.

Mourinho has won this competition in the past with Porto and it is precisely that pedigree which convinced Inter president Massimo Moratti to appoint the former Chelsea manager after three disappointing years in the Champions League.

No secret has been made of Mourinho's and Inter's desire to win the competition this year, and they made their intentions clear in Athens on Tuesday.

Ibrahimovic, who has been made the scapegoat for Inter's recent failures in the competition, also had a point to prove.

But he missed a glorious chance to do so in the 11th minute when he was played through with just Mario Galinovic to beat, but he seemed to be caught in two minds as he passed the ball wide of the post.

Ricardo Quaresma had inspired Inter to their first win in Serie A at the weekend and he was looking to open his account for the Nerazzurri with two dangerous shots from the edge of the penalty area.

Galinovic pushed his first shot wide before collecting the second one easily.

He could do nothing to prevent Mancini opening the scoring in the 27th minute, though.

Ibrahimovic's persistence was rewarded and a few lucky breaks allowed him to find his strike-partner in space to his left and Mancini picked his spot with aplomb.

The home team's reaction was immediate and the lively Bryce Moon had three chances to equalise.

His 29th-minute shot from 25 yards was tipped over the crossbar by Julio Cesar, who made a more comfortable save at his near post to deny Moon again minutes later.

The Inter goalkeeper was beaten by a wicked deflection off Marco Materazzi as Moon's shot struck the crossbar in the 42nd minute.

The Greeks kept searching for an equaliser and they were getting closer and closer.

Cleyton's attempted one-two with a colleague failed, but the ball came back to the Brazilian nonetheless and he shot just inches wide of the post from 16 yards out.

Andreas Ivanschitz was next up with a free-kick which missed everybody except Julio Cesar, who was almost caught out at the foot of his post.

At the other end, Mancini had a shot deflected over the crossbar, but that was only a rare moment of danger for Galinovic as Panathinaikos continued to dominate.

But Inter hit them with the sucker punch five minutes from time as Ibrahimovic's pass set substitute Adriano free and he provided the finish with his one and only touch of the night, firing the ball into the roof of the net from 10 yards out.

Teams:

Panathinaikos Galinovic, Vyntra, Simao, Goumas, Nilsson (Christodoulopoulos 73), Moon (Souza 82), Gilberto, Mattos, Cleyton, Salpigidis, Karagounis (Ivanschitz 36).

Subs Not Used: Tzorvas, Sarriegi, Tziolis, Spiropoulos.

Booked: Cleyton.

Inter Milan Julio Cesar, Maicon, Cordoba, Materazzi, Maxwell, Cambiasso, Vieira (Muntari 63), Zanetti, Mancini (Adriano 82), Ibrahimovic, Quaresma (Figo 63).

Subs Not Used: Toldo, Cruz, Santon, Balotelli.

Booked: Materazzi, Maicon.

Goals: Mancini 27, Adriano 85.

Att: 66,000

I watched both our World Cup qualifying games this week. Against Moldova it was a walk in the park tbf.

Tonight the game against Switzerland was a bit of a disappointment. We lost 1-2 but they scored a pen which I didn't see properly but I'm sure we got the ball and their 2nd goal was pretty much their 2nd attempt on goal. We went all out in the 2nd half and really, at least imo, didn't deserve to lose. All Switzerland did was defend and try and counter. I thought Karagounis should start from the beginning and perhaps Salpingidis should be given a chance also putting Gekas, the shortest of all out attackers down the middle is the worst idea as the he cannot get the crosses. Seitaridis and Torosidis where gd but Torosidis' crosses where quite poor as where Basinas' corners they just went over everyone. Finally hopefully the injury to Kyrgiakos isn't serious.

We are still in the lead but only by 1 point fortunately Latvia kept Israel to a draw.
