Kezman Bid Denied

Mateja Kezman has confirmed he wants to play in England next season, although Birmingham City boss Steve Bruce has denied making a bid for the PSV Eindhoven hot-shot.
Although the Serbia & Montenegro international did not impress during his side's 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United in the Uefa Cup on Wednesday, he did confidently convert a penalty past Shay Given to level the scores.

Birmingham are understood to be serious in their intentions concerning Kezman and PSV claimed to have received a firm bid from the Midlands outfit.

However, manager Steve Bruce stresses this is not the case.

"Kezman's one we have watched, we know all about him," he said. "But we've not made a bid."

The 25-year-old affirmed his desire to play in The Premiership after playing on Tyneside in midweek.

"It was a great atmosphere at St James' Park but that didn't surprise me," he told thefa.com.

"I played for Partizan Belgrade against Newcastle in the Cup Winners' Cup five years ago and it was the same then.

"English football is my dream, it always has been.

"It is the best competition, the best football.

"I think I am going to play in English competition next season."

Lightbulb Bergkamp

Ajax coach Ronald Koeman wants to bring Arsenal's veteran attacker Dennis Bergkamp back to Amsterdam.
Bergkamp started his illustrious career with the Dutch giants and his former Holland international team-mate is keen to renew acquaintances.

The 34-year-old's present Gunners deal expires at the end of the season and discussions regarding an extension have yet to bear fruit.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has already warned Bergkamp that he may have to settle for a more peripheral role if he wishes to extend his time at Highbury.

That has alerted Ajax chief Koeman who feels Bergkamp's experience would be a vital weapon in his team's armoury.

Bergkamp initially left Ajax for Internazionale in 1993 and Koeman is ready to offer the schemer a return to the club where he made his name.

"If Bergkamp wants to leave Arsenal, we should try to get him to Amsterdam," Koeman told Sportweek.

"He can be of great value for Ajax if he keeps playing the way he plays now.

"The balance of our team is very young. Some experience would be good for Ajax. And, of course, he's also just a very good player."

Koeman also acknowledged he is resigned to losing two of his key players in the summer, although he is unsure who will join Hatem Trabelsi in leaving the Amsterdam ArenA.

He added: "As well as Trabelsi, I think we'll lose Maxwell, Ibrahimovic or van der Vaart."
