Marseille Continue Hunting Koné

Quote:
Assertions made towards the end of last week that suggested Olympique Marseille were about to cut-off their hunt for Baky Koné have been dismissed by club president Pape Diouf…

The diminutive Ivorian forward has been a top transfer target for the Provence club since the end of last season and, despite numerous set-backs, Pape Diouf’s Marseille side are still keen on the Nice forward.

Although relations between Marseille and the player appear to be excellent, Olympique are having trouble negotiating a release with Nice. Le Gym have an asking price of around €10 million for their star man – Marseille claim to value him at no more than €8 million.

Clearly such a gap is proving difficult to bridge, but Diouf remains optimistic.

“We will continue to try to find a solution financial with the president of Nice, Maurice Cohen. He has made an estimate for the player that does not match mine,” Marseille’s president told Canal+

“I think that the perimeters mean a deal can be done. We will continue our discussions in the next few days.”

A potential development in the transfer is that Djibril Cissé could move along the south coast in the opposite direction.

Diouf dismissed this claim stating, “We should not be blinded by the cases of Koné and Cissé. Djibril is here and, from my point of view, he will stay unless an incredible offer reaches us.”

Meh, they should look for someone better.

Marseille lost 2-1 to Liverpool. 23: GOAL CANA! Cana sprints into the Liverpool box and places a neat finish past Reina. That was a great through ball from Cheyrou to set up the chance. Marseille lead 1-0 and they just about deserve their advantage. 26: GOAL GERRARD! Gerrard sends a beautiful curving effort past Mandanda from the right hand edge of the Marseille box. That was a fantastic goal that would grace any game. This is the match of the season so far. 32: GOAL GERRARD! Gerrard places the penalty.
