Forest chairman Nigel Doughty went into the dressing room to warn the players they must sort things out on the pitch after their 2-1 defeat at home to Watford.
The frustrated Reds owner had watched from the stands as Heidar Helguson scored twice from Neal Ardley's free kicks to put Watford 2-0 up within the first half-hour.
And he is so worried about his club's plight that he decided to tell the players they had to raise their game.
Striker Marlon King revealed: "We had a long talk afterwards.
''The manager was reserved. He was a bit speechless because it is the same old scenario and even the chairman came in.
''The chairman said it is now seven or eight goals conceded from set-pieces and he said we have got to knuckle down and work on it. He is obviously disappointed. It is his team, his club and he does not want to watch his team get beaten, especially at home.
''We have got to beat teams at home. With more than 20,000 fans getting behind you, what more can you ask for? "To lose 2-1 to Watford - with no disrespect to them, they are not world-beaters - is not good enough and the chairman came in and let us know that set-pieces are killing us.
''The chairman is part of Nottingham Forest and he has the right to show his disappointment.''
Andy Reid pulled a goal back on the stroke of half-time but Forest still fell to their seventh defeat, leaving them third from bottom of the Coca-Cola Championship.
Goalkeeper Paul Gerrard understands the chairman's frustrations.
He said: "The chairman is entitled to come into the dressing room. He puts the money into the football club.
"I can fully understand why he wanted to be in the dressing room because obviously he is as concerned as everyone else connected with the football club.
"The black and white of it is we are conceding far too many goals - easy goals - and giving chances away to the opposition far too frequently."
Forest, who were watched by Newcastle boss Graeme Souness, now face Rotherham at the City Ground on Wednesday.
The South Yorkshire side are rooted to the bottom of the table and are without a win in their 16 matches this season.
Good!
