Scimeca unlikely to join Canaries
Nigel Worthington looks set to miss out on his first transfer target of the close season, Leicester midfielder/defender Riccardo Scimeca.
The experienced 29-year-old, who can play in either defence or midfield, has held talks with the Canaries – but he has also spoken to fellow Premiership new-boys West Brom, who now look almost certain to win the race for his signature.
“I hope he will be able to come back with a decision soon,” said the Baggies' manager, Gary Megson.
“Obviously the Premier League did not end until Saturday, but we'd like to know sooner rather than later so that we can speak to other people if necessary.
“We've kept tabs on Scimeca and he has the sort of Premiership experience that we are looking for.
“We're doing a lot of work behind the scenes at the moment as we want to be quicker off the mark than we were last time. It is a huge jump up from Division One to the Premiership and we want to try and be ready for that.”
Scimeca's wife has just given birth and it's believed the couple favour West Brom because they would be able to stay put in the Midlands.
