Default Worthington admits Bentley desire

Norwich City boss Nigel Worthington has confirmed his interest in landing Arsenal's talented youngster David Bentley on a long-term loan.
The former Blackpool manager has targeted the 19-year-old as one of his first summer signings after The Canaries completed their First Division title season with a 3-1 win over Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road on Sunday.

The England Under-21 striker has shown some of his potential in limited appearances for The Gunners this season, having made a name for himself with a fine goal against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.

With available places in Arsene Wenger's first team presently at a premium, Worthington is ready to compete with the likes of Bolton Wanderers to land the starlet on a season-long loan, as the East Anglian outfit prepare for their return to The Premiership following a nine-year absence.

"Technically, David Bentley is a very good player," Worthington told the Eastern Daily Press.

"He's highly thought of at Arsenal and I think he would add something to us. We've watched him and we like him.

"I have made an inquiry about bringing him here on a long-term loan."

Wenger has already admitted that Bentley will be going out on loan next season and it remains to be seen if The Canaries can win the chase to bring Bentley to Carrow Road this summer.
