Default How much money we will would get...

Jubilant Norwich City fans were told last night that manager Nigel Worthington would be given cash to bring in more players during the summer.

But the club stressed that its Premiership future would be built on a foundation of "prudence with ambition".

It is expected that the club will get at least £15m from moving into the top flight, but while the celebrations continued across Norfolk and beyond, the club vowed not to get carried away by success and the club's friendly and community feel would remain very much in place.

The club's chief executive Neil Doncaster said that a board meeting yesterday was long planned and City's final financial picture will become clearer during meetings with Premiership officials over the next few months.

"Everybody is looking forward to the challenges of the Premiership," he said last night. "Today is all about celebration. Planning for the Premiership is for the future. Yes it's prudence with ambition and getting the right balance."

But he said the Canaries' Premiership future would be inspired by the example set by South London club Charlton Athletic.

"Charlton remain a role model for a club like ours, who wish to remain community clubs. They have built bit by bit by bit."

During the meeting, club officials expressed interest in plans to beam more away games back to Carrow Road next season, similar to the way clubs such as Portsmouth and Leicester have done this year.

And proposals will continue to create 2000 extra seats by filling in the corner of the Jarrold and Norwich and Peterborough stand and find a partner for previously announced plans to build a hotel between the Barclay and Jarrold stands.

Majority shareholder Delia Smith said she felt the club had the spirit to survive in the Premiership.

"We will give it our best shot, and I do feel if we don't do it, we will just have another go – we won't be beaten," she said.

But she vowed that the club would not get carried away by their success.

"Neil and I have always said our feet are going to be on the ground – we are going to be the same football club. We will go a little bit at a time."

And she said she would not follow the lead set by clubs such as Wolverhampton Wanderers who have lashed out millions of pounds on managers and players, only to come back down again with a bump.

"It's not just about money, it's about guile," she added. "We will have some money, but we will have spirit and guile as well."

Her husband Michael Wynn Jones gave the first hint that new players will be brought in to bolster the squad.

"Nigel is very aware of the areas he wants to strengthen and it will happen," he said. "The one thing going for us is that the transfer market is collapsing, but Premier League wages are going up."

There was a standing ovation for the couple and Neil Doncaster as they went into the meeting.

And more applause followed during the meeting when Delia said she would sit with the fans when the club played away at Everton as there was still anger at the Merseyside's club's failure to apologise over its false allegations that City fans had made racist chants during an FA Cup game.

"It's a done deal," she said. "I would be very happy to do that. But I do think when people have behaved in the way that Everton Football Club have we have got to drop it and move on.

"Michael and I have always said that Everton is a manager's graveyard," she added. "I just think they are a sad football club."

But Norfolk was continuing to celebrate the return of the club to top-flight football.

And there was no sign of an end to the party that kicked off after the final whistle of Crystal Palace's 3-0 defeat of Sunderland.

Across Norfolk the bunting was out as fans marked their own tribute to the club after ending a nine-year absence from the English football's elite.

Despite the healthy dose of realism, Delia Smith raised a glass of bubbly while sporting her unique specially-made away shirt,

And there were congratulations from across the country including a call to the club from former Monty Python star Michael Palin.

She admitted her first taste of nerves after revealing she had received a letter of congratulations from David Dein, vice-chairman of champion's elect Arsenal.

Meanwhile North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb put down an early day motion congratulating the club and its officials. And in a spirit of friendly political co-operation he welcomed and amendment from his Labour rival Ian Gibson thanking fans also.

Promotion brings spin-offs for the county beyond the terraces with the total benefits it could bring to Norfolk has been estimated at £50m.

Norwich South MP Charles Clarke, a Carrow Road season-ticket holder said promotion would lift the status of the city in the wider world.

"This is a fantastic moment and thrilling for everyone," he said. "The city is linked to the welfare and fortunes of the club. It is fantastic for the profile. A lot of people do not know what a modern city Norwich is. Having a premiership team with people coming in and seeing, they will see the modern, thrusting city at the cutting edge. It is fantastic."
