Default Reserves end their season in style

Pontins Holidays Combination

Norwich City Reserves 1, Brentford Reserves 0

In what has been an indifferent season for City Reserves last night's win over Brentford in their final game of the season was one of their better performances. In front of a crowd of almost 3,000 it took them until the 89th minute to break the deadlock when Danny Crow tapped in his 18th goal of the season. For the first time for in a number of games Keith Webb was able to name a side that wasn't made up almost entirely of youth team players. Jim Brennan came in at wide-left while Ian Henderson and Ryan Jarvis led the attack. City made all the early running with Mark Rivers creating the opening that saw Brennan head just wide. City did find the net on the quarter-hour mark when Clint Easton flicked on a Jarvis corner but Henderson who finished from close range was given offside. Dean Sinclair tried a long-range effort when he spotted Josh Lennie in the Brentford goal off his line but it went just the wrong side of the upright. The lively Henderson was causing the visitor's defence plenty of problems and he twice went close before the break. Sinclair again went close shortly after the interval while Brentford had their first real opportunity of the game when Dominic Gauci saw a dipping shot go just over Paul Crichton's crossbar. Crow replaced Henderson on 73 minutes when he went close with his first touch of the game but his effort was blocked. Just when it seemed City would be denied a win in what was to be their last Combination game prior to moving up to the Premier Reserve League next season substitute Olly Willis raced clear down the left to send in a low ball across the face of the goal and while it looked as though Rivers would get the all important touch the ball broke for Crow who fired the ball into the roof of the net.

Norwich City: Crighton, Briggs, Smith, Sinclair, Halliday, Rivers, Henderson (Crow 73), Jarvis, Easton, Brennan (Willis 78). Subs not used: Herbert, Blackburn and Howlett.

Brentford: Lennie, Hillier, Wells, Palmer, Steele, Weight (Moleski 68), Morrison, L Muldowney, McNamara, Peters, Gauci. Subs not used: Buckeridge, C Muldowney.

Attendance: 2,992.
