Post hucks nearly forgot his boots...

EAGLE-EYED Canary fan Glenn Chambers kept Norwich City's promotion drive on course last night by rescuing Darren Huckerby's boots!

The absent-minded Norwich striker had left them on top of his car as he made the short drive from his home to Carrow Road.

Chambers raced to the rescue as Huckerby sped off with his boots falling into the road and managed to intercept the Canaries favourite just in time.

He was about the only person who did manage to halt Huckerby in his tracks as the Canaries hero ripped the Latics apart and grabbed a fabulous solo strike in a crucial 2-0 win.

Chambers said: "I couldn't believe it when the boots landed at my feet. I went running after the car and Darren must have seen me in his rear view mirror or something because he stopped.

"He was very grateful although he seemed more than a bit embarrassed about it all."

It took Nigel Worthington's men 55 minutes to prise their way past a stubborn Wigan defence with keeper John Filan in superb form.

Two excellent saves had denied first Malkie Mackay and then Leon McKenzie before Matthias Svensson struck his fourth goal in three games.

It was a goal fit for the Premiership as the Swede - still harbouring hopes of forcing his way into the Euro 2004 reckoning this summer - swept the sweetest of left foot strikes beyond Filan after Huckerby's storming run had made the opening.

Svensson's effort, however, was bettered on 72 minutes as he and Huckerby swapped passes on the half-way line allowing Huckerby to race on and flick the ball away beyond Filan's despairing dive.

A delighted Worthington said: "That's a great win.

"Svensson is now starting to show what a good player he is while Darren just did what he does best."

::hahaha:: ::hahaha:: ::hahaha:: he probably still would have been able to score that goal in his socks anyway
