Thumbs up Norwich City 2-0 Wigan

Norwich moved a step closer to the Premiership with victory over Wigan.
The Canaries had the better first half, John Filan saving Malky Mackay's drive and Leon McKenzie twice going close.

Jason Roberts hit the side-netting as Wigan threatened but Mathias Svensson curled Norwich into the lead with a sensational 25-yard left-foot strike.

Svensson drilled a shot off the post before Darren Huckerby's solo goal sealed the win, while Jimmy Bullard crashed a shot off the bar for Wigan.

There was plenty of attacking intent from kick off, hardly surprising as they had scored eight goals between them in their last games.

And Filan was straight into the action, denying Mackay and McKenzie, who shot straight at him, before Alan Mahon headed wide from Andy Liddell's cross for Wigan.

The visitors began to pose real problems and Bullard fired a 25-yard effort at Robert Green before Roberts sent a shot wide when he should have hit the target.

But Norwich came out after the break in dominant mood and as Huckerby went on a mazy run the ball fell to Svensson, who brilliantly arched the ball into the top corner from 25 yards.

The goal settled Norwich and they produced some flowing football, Svensson turning a shot onto the post as they probed for a second.

They did not have to wait too long as Huckerby skipped past three challenges and placed the ball past Filan, another solo special from the former Man City star.

Bullard slammed a 25-yard rocket against Green's crossbar with three minutes left but there was to be no consolation goal for the Latics.
