Default Huckerby wants Norwich extenision

Quote:
Norwich City striker Darren Huckerby has expressed his desire to remain at Carrow Road beyond the end of his current deal.

The 30-year-old's contract expires at the end of the season but he is desperate to pen an extension sooner rather than later.

Reports had suggested that Huckerby would seek pastures new following Nigel Worthington's exit after a poor start to the campaign.

However, after being assured he is very much of new manager Peter Grant's plans, Huckerby is keen to secure his future with The Canaries.

"You don't know where you are when a new manager comes in, but I have always made my case that I want to stay," he told the club's official website.

"But I want to try and get it sorted as soon as possible. We don't want to wait until January when the vultures start to hover, so it is up to the club to get it sorted out quickly.

"I am here until the end of the season whatever happens. I will not be leaving in January. If there is an offer put in I will not be leaving. But I would rather get it (signing a new deal) done sooner, rather than later."

Grant has confirmed he will be doing all he can to ensure Huckerby is tied to a new long-term deal.

He said: "I want Darren to take us to the next level. He is very much part of what we want to do in the future.

"I hope the club can afford to keep him. We want him here and are desperate to keep him here."
