City join the race for Sam Parkin
Norwich City have joined the hunt for Sam Parkin after Brighton & Hove Albion withdrew from the chase to sign the Swindon Town striker.
Swindon are currently considering the future of the Scotland hopeful and held a meeting on Monday to discuss the bids received for Parkin.
Watford have been at the forefront of the race to land Parkin, while Crewe Alexandra have also made an enquiry for the 24-year-old.
Ipswich Town are understood to be keen but the £700,000 price tag on the prolific hot shot has forced Brighton to shelve their interest.
Brighton chairman Dick Knight conceded his club cannot afford the former Chelsea trainee and hinted Norwich are preparing a bid.
"We have made an enquiry about Parkin," said Knight. "He is a proven goalscorer and a quality striker but I think he's too rich for us.
"We have not made a formal bid for him but we tested the water.
"They did not turn down my speculative offer but we cannot compete with Norwich and Ipswich until we get a new stadium, even though the player himself had an interest in us."
Parkin, meanwhile, insists he is not going to rush a decision to leave The County Ground, despite a summer switch to The Championship beckoning.
"I obviously listen to what is being said and I look at the internet," Parkin told the Swindon Evening Advertiser.
"I know offers have been received by the club and I'd be a liar if I said I wasn't interested to hear that they're from clubs in a higher league.
"Everyone is aware of the Watford thing but as a player you're obviously interested to hear all the possibilities.
"One thing is for sure, I won't be making any hasty decisions about my future. Nor will I be pushed into anything."
Wel i know i used to bet on Swindon to win quite a bit last season simply cos of this guy! His goal scoring record speaks for itself. A new leon perhaps?? Wel i hope he can make the step up, but then again im jumping to conclusions, i mean he only been linked wit us!
