Green rumours put to rest (again)
Speculation linking Norwich City star Robert Green with a move to the North East was finally laid to rest yesterday when Middlesbrough keeper Mark Schwarzer agreed a new three-year deal with the club.
The 32-year-old Australia international ended speculation about his own future when he revealed he was poised to sign a contract extension to keep him at the Riverside Stadium until 2008.
The highly-rated Schwarzer has been linked with both Manchester United and Arsenal this season – with the tabloid gossip columns suggesting Green was the man most likely to take his place if he left.
Boro boss Steve McClaren was always optimistic his No. 1 would stay put – and is delighted to have been proved right.
"It's great news because it means we know we have a first-class goalkeeper in place for the next few seasons," he said.
