Norwich rubbish rumours.....
Norwich City have dismissed as pure speculation reports that ex-Ipswich player Titus Bramble is a target for Nigel Worthington.
With the opening of the transfer window in January fast approaching, the rumour-mill is gathering pace, with reports also suggesting that Gary Doherty could be on his way to Sheffield United - just a few months after moving to Carrow Road from Tottenham.
Bramble is reportedly being tracked by Norwich and Everton, with Newcastle ready to offload him as they search for quality centre-halves.
Everton boss David Moyes still has the money from the sale of Wayne Rooney burning a hole in his pocket – and Norwich fans will be hoping he decides to spend some of it on Bramble.
The 23-year-old would hardly be a popular acquisition, given that he made more than 50 appearances for City's biggest rivals.
Bramble joined the ex-Ipswich club at Newcastle under the reign of Sir Bobby Robson, but his displays have hardly been the stuff of legend, with an alarming lack of concentration always lurking somewhere in his game.
Current Newcastle boss Graeme Souness has already done some tough talking with Bramble and told him he can go two ways - become a full international or go back and play his football with his home-town team Ipswich.
The talk of 24-year-old Doherty leaving Carrow Road would also appear wide of the mark. Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock is reported to be interested, but Doherty is on a three-year contract, with an option to extend the deal beyond that period. And although he has found a first team place hard to come by, Doherty is unlikely to want to drop into the Championship.
The prospect of either move going ahead is, at the moment, unlikely.
“It is pure speculation and at this moment in time we have no further comment to add,” said a City spokesman.
