I'm in the Seattle area right now! Its beautiful up here, great place to be and you bet I'll take a road trip here to see some soccer. I'm about 25 mins south of Seattle in Federal Way, WA and my girlfriend currently lives a town over in Des Moines, WA; I expect to spend alot of time here in the next few years. Its a shame I'm going home tomorrow afternoon.

For a second I thought you said a town away in Des Moines, Iowa I thought you'd gone crazy, but alas its just me.

But from what all the people I work with say Seattle is a great area and should do well supporting the MLS side.

Seattle is a big sports town. Teams dont get it easy when they go to play the Sonics, Mariners or Seahawks. I think it'll do great up there. Heck, I may be a Red Bulls fan now, but I am planning a relocation to Seattle in the near future and could become a fan.

That would be a huge signing for MLS, but I don't see it happen anytime soon.

Seattle Sounders FC and Major League Soccer Announce Sponsorship With Microsoft and Xbox 360: The Seattle Sounders FC and Major League Soccer today announced a multiyear sponsorship with Microsoft and Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system.

Quote:
The Seattle Sounders FC and Major League Soccer (MLS) today announced a multiyear sponsorship with Microsoft Corp. and Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system. The landmark deal is highlighted by the “Xbox 360 LIVE” logo featured prominently on the Sounders FC jersey. Sounders FC will debut its new uniforms when the team takes the field for the first time in spring 2009.

Xbox 360 also will be featured as the presenting sponsor of the Sounders FC annual international tour and will gain entitlement to the team’s playing surface, “The Xbox Pitch at Qwest Field.” Xbox 360 will be recognized as the Official and exclusive Video Game Console of MLS.

“This is a defining moment for the entire soccer community,” said Sounders FC majority owner Joe Roth. “We took a very strategic approach in our search for a Presenting Partner. In our minds it was critical to partner with a locally based, international company with a strong brand, a culture similar to our own, and a commitment to our community. The Xbox reputation for providing products and entertainment experiences that bring people together to compete, hang out and have fun makes them a perfect partner for our organization.”

“Teaming with the Seattle Sounders FC and Major League Soccer is a perfect combination for Microsoft and Xbox 360,” said Robbie Bach, president, Entertainment and Devices Division, Microsoft. “Xbox 360 is the new home for sports games, and our goal is to entertain a global audience. Sponsoring our hometown team playing the world’s favorite sport marked a great opportunity for Microsoft to support our local community and further associate the Xbox 360 brand with soccer’s international appeal.”

At the heart of the sponsorship is a commitment from the Sounders FC and Xbox 360 to collaborate in developing the team’s overall community and philanthropic initiatives.

“One of the most exciting pieces of this sponsorship is the opportunity to work with Microsoft and Xbox 360 to create dynamic community programs and build one of the leading brands of soccer in the U.S.,” said Vulcan Sports and Entertainment CEO Tod Leiweke. “We also look forward to building a great relationship with Microsoft employees who live, work and play in our backyard.”

The sponsorship delivers MLS league and team marks along with logos and marketing assets at league and select team events such as the Pepsi MLS All-Star Game and MLS Cup, Major League Soccer’s championship game. The agreement includes player appearances, intellectual property, title nights, Web site presence, in-stadium exposure — including Xbox 360 fieldboards to be displayed at every MLS game — and on-site activation at select MLS special events. Xbox 360 also will be a sponsor of MLS grassroots and community initiatives including MLS Futbolito, the League’s official 4-v-4 soccer tournament.

“We are proud to welcome Microsoft and Xbox 360 to the Major League Soccer family,” said MLS Commissioner Don Garber. “The addition of one of the world’s most prominent brands to Major League Soccer is another indication of the League’s growth on the global sports landscape. Xbox 360 fits in perfectly with the Sounders FC brand and with our young and diverse audience that is actively involved in today’s digital world.”

Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft's entertainment and devices division, confirmed the sponsorship deal has a five-year term. The deal is worth an estimated $20 million, which Microsoft will pay Sounders FC over its course, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.

Sounders Strike A Pose
2008-12-05 21:52:38

MLS’s newest franchise out of Seattle, The Sounders FC, took cue from minority owner Drew Carey, host of “The Price is Right”, debuting their home and away kits with the flash and spectacle that is customary on the iconic game show.

Within the WaMu Theater, hundreds of attendees were privy to a fashion show unveiling of the signature uniforms. Sounders FC Goalkeeper Kasey Keller and Sounders FC Midfielder Freddie Ljungberg bravely took to the runway to showcase the new kits proving that rave green, cascade shale and Sounders blue are most flattering. The dual-color scheme, exclusive to Seattle’s newest team, was selected to reflect the city’s distinguishable land and waterscape.

“I like the loose jackets, because I’m fat,” Carey wise-cracked. “I love the colors. We want to stand out, not be like the other teams.”

The fashion show also provided fans a first look at the official Sounders FC Badge, which was developed with two distinct layers to represent the partnership between the community, the players and the fans. The partners are all united under one banner which carries the team name.

“The Price is Right” models were all on hand, alongside Sounders FC Majority Owner, Joe Roth and Josie Bissett, local actress and author best known for her seasons on the 90’s hit, Melrose Place.

In addition to the entertainment aspect, The Sounders FC fashion show also proved to be an opportunity for the MLS franchise to contribute to the community. All proceeds from the event will benefit two local organizations – the Seattle Children’s Hospital Research Institute and the Quest for a Cure Guild.

Next up for the sounders….the Start of the 2009 season. Fans can stock up now on the official Sounders FC gear at Go Green for the Holidays.

Visit the World Soccer Shop to purchase official Seattle Sounders gear. A great gift for the holidays for any Sounders fan
