The Brooklyn Italians will take on N.Y. Greek-American Atlas in a preliminary round of the 2008 Lamar Hunt/U.S. Open Cup at Aviator Sports Complex in Brooklyn, N.Y. at 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
The two Cosmopolitan Soccer League teams have one of the best rivalries in U.S. amateur soccer.
The Italians, who captured the Cup in 1991, are the last New York club to win the cup. The Italians also were champions is 1979, while losing twice in the finals (1981, 1990).
G-A Atlas was champions in 1967-68-69 (under former U.S. national coach Alkis Panagoulias) and 1974.
The teams last met in an CSL First Division match Nov. 11, as G-A Atlas won, 1-0.
