Jonas Gutierrez
Signed today on a five year deal from Mallorca.
Looks a really good buy. Argentine international, had a couple of excellent seasons in La Liga, earned a couple of caps. From what I have seen he looks a very direct player, reminds me a bit of Damien Duff when he was at his best. Should be a good acquisition, bit of a typical Keegan player.
And apparently when he scores he uses a Spiderman mask....

Bastards. We couldnt get him because of something about being owned by two clubs. How did they get past that bit?

I think he has bought out the remainder of his contract. Mallorca are demanding some serious compensation, around £15m i believe.

I know what has happened with his contract.
On July 1st 2008, Jonás Gutiérrez unilaterally rescinded his contract with the Spanish side, after calling FIFA's Article 17, most commonly know as Webster ruling. As a result, the club is thought to be demanding a 15 million Euros compensation.

Well they certainly kept that quiet. He's not even been linked to the club in the past. I've never seen him play and he doesn't have a good goal record, so I'm a little nervous about this signing, but if he is playing for Argentina's national team, it means that he have to be talented.
Here's Spiderman 4 btw:

What shall I say. I've seen him several times against Real Madrid. He is strong, approved technique and speed.....but he will never be the one that shall kick Magpies to the top.
I can't see him succeed in the EPL. Maybe a new Luque,- but time will show. He had a good season for RCD Mallorca who finished 7th in La Liga though.

Decent player to sign for Nuevocastillo but through negotiation I was expecting the club who signed him to get him for less than 10m euros as Mallorca didn't hold the whole of his registration.
15m euros sounds like too much, usually it's said to be the amount the player would have been paid in the remaining years of his contract so the compensation could still be much lower.

Newcastle have signed Argentina winger Jonas Gutierrez from Real Mallorca on a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
Gutierrez, 24, played in his country's 0-0 World Cup qualifier draw in Brazil last month and is Magpies manager Kevin Keegan's first major summer recruit.
"Jonas is a wonderful signing for us," said Keegan. "A lot of other clubs have been interested in him. He'll be a terrific addition to the squad.
"He's an exciting player and I'm sure our fans will enjoy watching him."
Gutierrez, who has been nicknamed 'Spiderman' because of the webbed mask he puts on for flamboyant goal celebrations, had previously been linked with a £10m move to Portsmouth.
