Keegan gets Newcastle job
Talk about living in the past. Keegan hasn't been a good manager for years.

Pathetic decision but what it rapidly becoming a joke of a football club. Should never have sacked Big Sam IMO.

Not a surprising appointment by a club living in the past.

I'm not surprised either, his name was mentioned.
Not the best decision, absolutely.

Well all the Newcastle fans are really happy with this decision...
He is a living legend for them...so i wouldn't expect anything less however what if he cannot get them performing to the level the fans expect?? Will they turn on him like they did with Allardyce?? Cos lets be honest Keegan hasn't been a manager for quite some time and he might not get into the swing of things immediately, and the Newcastle fans are very impatient as is the owner and if he doesn't deliver soon he might be in trouble...so it will be interesting if Newcastle don't improve, to see how the fans will react.
Also it is quite funny how the Newcastle board said they would look for a manager on the continent, instead they go for a guy who rejuvinated them in the past. Lets see what he can do

Argh, football "management" isn't about knowing the most modern tactics, knowing whether a defender should stand 4 or 5 meters in front of the goal box. It's about getting the best out of the players you have!
That's what so many "managers" don't know how to do because they are only coaches but want the big manager's paycheck!
Keagan will bring Newcastle back to life, mark my words! I doubt he'll make the club as "successfull" as it was in the nineties but I'm sure he'll get the players playing exciting attacking football and please the fans!
For tactics, training etc he'll get a very good coach or two as an assistant!

Good news. Keagen/Shearer will probably do a better job than Souness, Allardyce, Roeder and CO.
However, I don't believe in too much better times yet. 80 % of the players they have today, will not and never shot this team to the top...not even with God as manager.

At least the atmosphere will be back at St. James'. There will be more pressure on Keegan now than last time, so it will be interessting to see how this works out. It will definetly not be like last time, but hopefully there will be some good attacking football, something we've lacked since Sir Bobby Robsons era.
The club were odds on for relegation to the old 3rd Division when he took over the first time. He turned it all round then with the demoralised squad he inherited. I believe he can do it again and I belive the fans will give him the time he need.
Hopefully Shearer will be assistant manager.

The atomsphere is very important to get back, and the hope.
But things have changed since the 1990s in Premier League. The big guns have support from rich investors and clubs like ManUtd, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal will be very hard to reach. Aston Villa, Tottenham, Everton, ManCity, etc are also clubs with rich investors and a good futureplan...so to get the best players (who is necessary to success) will be extreamly difficult.
Yes, I belive in better times, but Its very important to be realistic. I don't think N'castle will finish top four in the EPL. Not this season, next or in 2011. If Keagan can get control over what The Magpies need and IF Mike Ashley gives him £50 mill (to take a sum) and give him time....yes they can be in the same group who fights for a position under top four and reach a spot in the UEFA Cup.
People talked about a good spot in the league under Allardyce this season. What!! Why can someone say that? Look at the squad...its full of B-players and 70 % of them are injured over half of the season. I've never seen a more horrible team than N'caste on their worst. No plan over the attack and the ManUtd match proved what will happen against the biggest guns. Not even Exeter lost 6-0 against them.
However, I will not be surprised if Keagen is sacked at this time in 2009. But Its up to Fat Ashley too. I really miss Fat Fred when it comes to outcome. Only Real Madrid and a couple of other clubs spend more than N'castle on transfers some years ago. What have The Magpies got from Ashley (his goal were to finish top four this season) around £8 mill.....
And another problem that've showed up.....Toon and Madrid reached a deal with Baptista thuis summer, but he denied to move to northeast and choiced to be on the bench in Spain. Well...I understand that the best and second best players don't want to come...even they will get good economic agreements.
The day N'castle United get a stable team in EPL (around 5-6 on the table) and the reputation is back...then they can start to develop the club to fight with top four.

Keegan is excused. Look at what he had to play.
Martins, Viduka, Beye, Faye, Butt, Emre, Barton, Smith, Geremi all out. The central midfield were Rozenahl-N'Zogbia and Duff/Ameobi had to play...they've almost been away in a decade.

The main thing is that with all the Newcastle fans saying he is the one and skysports and other tv channels and websites saying "the messiah has returned" they are just putting more pressure on Keegan and if he fails it will look all the worse for Ashley.
the hype isn't helping Newcastle at all.
