Default Beye joins Newcastle

Quote:
Marseille defender Habib Beye is reportedly close to signing for Newcastle.

The Senegal international has previously insisted he wants to remain at Marseille, but it is now believed that Beye had a Newcastle medical on Wednesday.

Marseille are rumoured to be keen on selling their captain and Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce is thought to be on the look out for a versatile defender after the recent injuries sustained by Stephen Carr and Peter Ramage.

Both players picked up problems in Sunday's meeting with Middlesbrough and Allardyce, who targeted Beye when he first took over at St James' Park, will be keen to bring in cover ahead of the closure of the transfer window on Friday.

Allardyce is also said to be close to completing the signing of Bolton midfielder Abdoulaye Faye.

The 29-year-old is also believed to have undergone a Newcastle medical and is set to sign in a deal worth a reported £2million.

I'm happy with that, certainly happier than if we signed Johnson.

New back line of:

Beye-Cacapa-Rozenhal-Enrique

Looks good on paper.

Default Beye completes Toon move

Quote:
MARSEILLE defender Habib Beye has completed his switch to Newcastle United.

The 29-year-old Senegal star has signed a three-year deal with the Magpies.

Beye, who can operate as a right-back or centre-back, was skipper of the French club having joined from Strasbourg in 2003.

He featured in both legs of Marseille's UEFA Cup semi-final victory over United in 2004 but was on the losing side in the final against Valencia.

At last we have a decent right back.

At the end of last season I wanted two new fullbacks to be in the 1st eleven, I wanted strength in depth at center half and I wanted depth up front.

I'm very pleased with the transfers this year, Even though there wasn't any trophy signings, the club managed to sign players in the right area. We don't look like we've been ripped off for anyone.

The biggest fees were for Barton and Smith, both proven at Premiership level, the rest were modest or nominal.

A squad from the following does not look too bad at all.

------------------Given/Harper

Beye/Carr Rozenhal Taylor/Cacapa Enrique/Babayaro

Milner/Barton/Geremi/Faye/Smith/Emre/Butt/Duff/N'Zogbia

----------Owen/Martins/Viduka/Ameobi

With players like Smith, Geremi, Milner and N'Zogbia able to play in more than one position we've the core group of players which, with a little time to play together and know eachother on the pitch, should be able to produce on the pitch, without filling the back pages with embarrassing moments. There's a decent mix of youth and experience as well. Beye and Cacapa were both captains.

I'm becoming worryingly positive about this season. But everytime I'm positive about a season, it goes to hell. Hopefully not this time.

This means Carr out of the team and Ramage will get lesser appearances this season.I really feel sorry for them both. That's how N'castle pay their loyalty to the club.

Good signing there. Quality RB.

Marseille weakened again.

A comfort that we got Faye and Beye. The squad is now approved...but not for goal as finishing top four in the EPL, Ashley !

However, if the Magpies can end around 5-8 on the table and get into Europe next season...and then develop forther....things can be interesting.

But don't put any unrealistic goals. You'll only be disappointed.
