MARSEILLE defender Habib Beye has completed his switch to Newcastle United.
The 29-year-old Senegal star has signed a three-year deal with the Magpies.
Beye, who can operate as a right-back or centre-back, was skipper of the French club having joined from Strasbourg in 2003.
He featured in both legs of Marseille's UEFA Cup semi-final victory over United in 2004 but was on the losing side in the final against Valencia.

At last we have a decent right back.
At the end of last season I wanted two new fullbacks to be in the 1st eleven, I wanted strength in depth at center half and I wanted depth up front.
I'm very pleased with the transfers this year, Even though there wasn't any trophy signings, the club managed to sign players in the right area. We don't look like we've been ripped off for anyone.
The biggest fees were for Barton and Smith, both proven at Premiership level, the rest were modest or nominal.
A squad from the following does not look too bad at all.
------------------Given/Harper
Beye/Carr Rozenhal Taylor/Cacapa Enrique/Babayaro
Milner/Barton/Geremi/Faye/Smith/Emre/Butt/Duff/N'Zogbia
----------Owen/Martins/Viduka/Ameobi
With players like Smith, Geremi, Milner and N'Zogbia able to play in more than one position we've the core group of players which, with a little time to play together and know eachother on the pitch, should be able to produce on the pitch, without filling the back pages with embarrassing moments. There's a decent mix of youth and experience as well. Beye and Cacapa were both captains.
I'm becoming worryingly positive about this season. But everytime I'm positive about a season, it goes to hell. Hopefully not this time.
