Default Wolves make Cort move

Wolves are to open talks with Newcastle striker Carl Cort about a move to Molineux.

The Premiership strugglers have approached Newcastle about Cort's availability and are hoping to sign the former Wimbledon star on a permanent basis.

Newcastle are willing to cut their losses on the striker, who cost £7 million when arriving from Wimbledon in the summer of 2000.

Cort has struggled with injuries during his time on Tyneside and he has not featured in Sir Bobby Robson's first team plans this season.

Wolves boss Dave Jones has held a long-term interest in the player and he tried to sign him last season before his side won promotion to The Premiership.

Jones is keen to bolster his attack, which is currently the lowest scoring in The Premiership, and he will hope that Cort can fire his side to safety if a deal can be agreed.

Wolves will on Thursday complete the £1,500,000 signing of Newcastle striker Carl Cort after beating local rivals West Brom to his signature.

Cort underwent a medical at Molineux on Wednesday evening before watching Wolves' 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

The 26-year-old is likely to agree personal terms on Thursday and end his unhappy spell at St James' Park.

Having arrived from Wimbledon in a £7m deal in the summer of 2000, Cort battled against persistent injury problems.

He was ultimately limited to just 22 Premiership appearances for Newcastle, making him arguably the Magpies' worst value signing of all-time.

Portsmouth, Fulham and Wolves' Black Country rivals Albion have all been linked with Cort, but he has decided to join the Molineux club's battle to stay in the Premiership.

Never really has the chance to see him in action with Newcastle. Byee.. :hey:
