Newcastle v Man City
Quote:
Manchester City's quest for points takes them to St James' Park to tackle a Newcastle side whose season has imploded in recent weeks.
The Magpies were well placed in Europe earlier in March, but they were sent crashing out of the Uefa Cup by AZ Alkmaar and followed that up with a defeat at Charlton.
Newcastle's last win in the Premiership came way back on 10th February and it is not beyond the realms of possibility they could be sucked into the relegation battle - despite the club insisting they are still looking to push for a European slot.
City are firmly in the relegation dogfight as they sit just six points above the drop zone and Stuart Pearce seems certain to have to take on Newcastle without Micah Richards after his defensive powerhouse damaged a calf on England duty in midweek.
The international break has handed Pearce a fortnight to rally his troops for the relegation battle and other than Richards, he has no fresh injury concerns.
City claimed a win at Middlesbrough in their most recent outing and Emile Mpenza is likely to keep his place in the side after opening his account at The Riverside.
Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder is still licking his wounds following the defeat to Charlton and he has made it clear that he will clear the decks in the summer.
As such, there could be a number of players with points to prove against City.
Newcastle's defence has thrown in some sorry displays of late and Roeder could well shuffle his pack again - with Steven Taylor and Peter Ramage fit to return following calf and hamstring complaints respectively.
Antoine Sibierski will be keen to take on his former club and he may be given the nod to partner Obafemi Martins in attack.
Kieron Dyer had a brief cameo for England in midweek and he is set to feature alongside Emre, Scott Parker and Damien Duff in midfield.

City will look for a win at all costs, but Newcastle won't let it happen I guess.

Starting lineups:
Newcastle
* 01 Given
* 02 Carr
* 18 Moore
* 27 Taylor
* 33 Babayaro
* 04 Solano
* 22 Butt
* 17 Parker
* 11 Duff
* 08 Dyer
* 09 Martins
Substitutes
* 12 Harper,
* 05 Emre,
* 15 Onyewu,
* 16 Milner,
* 20 Sibierski
Man City
* 01 Isaksson
* 16 Onuoha
* 22 Dunne
* 15 Distin
* 03 Ball
* 17 Jihai
* 08 Barton
* 21 Hamann
* 33 Johnson
* 11 Vassell
* 09 Mpenza
Substitutes
* 12 Weaver,
* 20 Samaras,
* 27 Trabelsi,
* 30 Corradi,
* 43 Miller
Finally we have a good bench. But I see N'Zogbia is missing.
If we don't win today Roeder can go to hell. He have a healthy squad to pick from, so there is no excuses this time.
Emre and Milner should have started ahead of Carr and Butt IMO.

Roeder keeps his best players on the bench. Emre and Milner. N'Zogbia isn't even on the bench FFS. Get rid of the fucking pairing of Butt and Parker.

7pts from Relegation - 7 games to go
Games remaining: Home: Arsenal, Chelsea, Blackburn...Away: Sheff U, Ports, Reading, Watford.
With our record away to bottom clubs, and having to play Arsen Chelsea at home, we are in with a serious chance of relegation.
Sack Roeder, and bring in Shearer for the remainer of season!

7 points it's about enough to not relegate but this have been an awful season for Newcastle who have ambitions to reach european cup qualification.

A very dreary result for everyone that supports and like N'castle United.
Roeder out NOW! He will NEVER be the right man for this job.
