Default Martins tells Newcastle fans: More to come from me

Obafemi Martins has told Newcastle United fans he's still working in third gear, despite his heroics in recent weeks.

"I am not totally used to the English game yet but I'm only 22 and I believe that I will get better and better," the Nigerian told The Journal. "I haven't found the pace of the Premiership a problem but the physical side of the game is different here.

"I didn't have the best of starts for Newcastle but recently I have been playing well and I'm pleased with how things are going. I have scored 10 (goals) but I don't have a target - if I keep working hard, goals will come. I would certainly say to the Newcastle fans that the best of me is yet to come."

Having had a difficult debut against Aston Villa last August - Martins was stretchered off in a game United lost 2-0 - the striker is determined to fare better when he returns to action against Martin O'Neill's side next week.

"I don't want to think about that game because it wasn't a good day for Newcastle and I didn't play that well," he told Newcastle's official website last night. "I have improved a lot since then and I'm more relaxed now." Martins credits his improvement to how much he is enjoying life on Tyneside. He added: "Newcastle's a cool place and I'm enjoying living here. I live on the Quayside and I love the view of the River Tyne and the bridges."

Martins has been playing very well recently, and he scored an incredible goal v spurs.

He looks a great signing for once by newcastle.

Oba is a great player. I think the best is still to come. He seems loyal too.

What a great signing for Newcastle...Martins is missed in Serie A. He's quick, and skillful. Sometimes he lacks on his finish....but still a great player!

He has proven in one season what an amazing player he is/can be he is 22 banging in goals for fun in the first season in the Premiership. He has come from a completely different style of play in the italian Serie A which is a very defence league compared to the very attacking football played in the EPL. He has all the attributes you need in a striker raw pace, can shoot from very long range, a huge leap and good head and good awareness. On the other hand his first touch is poor and his running can be a little stupid at times. He could also do with a little more composure, but all of these are ironed out after getting some experience under his belt.

I wouldn't be surprised if there comes more from this player...Inter should never have sold him. What were they thinking?
