Newcastle United have laughed off a £100,000 bid from Stoke City for out-of-favour defender Steve Caldwell, who has made it clear that he wants to quit St James' after making just two Premiership appearances this season.

The 23-year-old was handed a one-year contract last summer and the Magpies' are still looking for a respectable fee for the Scottish internatonal.
The Potters have since signed Arsenal's Sebastian Svard on loan and are not expected to come back with an improved offer.
