Newcastle submit Roeder request
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...ed/4969816.stm
Quote:
Glenn Roeder could soon be offered the Newcastle manager's job after the club asked the Premier League for dispensation to appoint him as manager.
Roeder took over in a caretaker capacity in February following the dismissal of Graeme Souness and has led the Magpies to 10 wins in 16 games.
However, the 50-year-old does not have the required Uefa Pro Licence to take the job on a permanent basis.
The club have now made a formal request and are waiting for a response.
The licence takes a year to complete and Roeder has already been given permission to remain in charge for the final two games of the season which fell beyond the 12 weeks stipulated by the rules.
Newcastle had relegation concerns when Roeder, formerly the club's Academy manager, took over but now they are in a battle with Bolton for seventh place in the Premiership and a place in next season's Intertoto Cup.
Roeder's tenure is due to come to an end with Sunday's final-day fixture against champions Chelsea.

Has Roeder started working towards his UEFA Pro License?

He has done a terrific job at Newcastle after SouMess, but I don't think he is the right man to take us forwards. The fact is that we want a big name appointment, someone who is proven under pressure. Roeder has yet to be under any pressure at Newcastle, and anytimes he's been under pressure in the past at other clubs, he's failed. Sure, he's doing well now, but what will he be like when people have high expectations of him? Poor is the likely answer, if his record is anything to go by.

Why would a big name go to Newcastle?

Roeder rejection
The Premier League board have rejected the bid for dispensation from Newcastle to allow Glenn Roeder to become permanent manager.
In a statement issued on Thursday evening the Premier League board stated:
The Premier League Board has considered Newcastle United's inquiry regarding the potential appointment of Glenn Roeder as their Manager.
Premier League Rules require that Managers hold the UEFA Pro License and do not provide for any dispensation.
The only way the Board would be prepared to allow Newcastle Untied to appoint Glenn Roeder as Manager without the Pro License is if so directed by member Clubs.
In the event of permission being sought, sufficient support from Clubs would have to be obtained and a formal resolution tabled at the forthcoming Premier League AGM.

I don't think Newcastle really want him....I bet Fat Fred's only asked to make it look like he tried.
If he is serious he's an idiot.
Roeder is tactically poor, doesn't make good subs and is benefiting from the fact that a dead cat would be a breath of fresh air compaired to Souness.

I wouldn't be as upset as I am if Freddy hadn't of shot his mouth off 90 days ago about getting a "top class" manager here. Regardless of who Roeder is, this shows a lack of ambition in the direction of our beloved club.
If it is indeed, Roeder, he has my support. I'm just bitterly disapointed it wasn't a higher profile replacement.
Rangers got LeGuen, FFS.

Le Guen went to Rangers because he was made alot of promises (money money money!!!). He's only there until he goes to a top 4 Prem team anyway.

Maybe but he was appointed United manager a long while before this UEFA ruling came in. Unless UEFA are a much bigger bunch of morons than I thought this ruling must only apply to mangers being appointed after this ruling came into force. Yes that does mean Fergie couldn't take over at any other prem club cos he isn't qulaified enough - ha - but United is his last management job anyway so getting the license would be a waste of his tme and a waste of £7k.

Shepherd: Roeder has won the job.
Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd is hopeful that he will be able to appoint Glenn Roeder as manager within days.
Roeder, 50, does not have the required Uefa Pro Licence to take the job but Shepherd hopes to persuade the Premier League to relax that regulation.
He has led Newcastle into the Intertoto Cup and Shepherd said: "Glenn has won the job, simple as that, end of story.
"I am sure my fellow chairmen and friends will support us in what we believe is a just case for Glenn."

Saga ends on Monday
NEWCASTLE United have been granted dispensation by the Premier League to appoint Glenn Roeder as manager should they wish to.
The Magpies were told by the FAPL last week that because the former skipper has yet to obtain the required Pro-Licence, the club would need permission from fellow Premiership outfits if they wanted to consider him as a candidate for the vacant post.
That has duly been granted and will be ratified at the FAPL's AGM at the beginning of June.
United Chairman Freddy Shepherd has thanked his counterparts for their co-operation in a fast and efficient manner.
He told nufc.co.uk: "Should we wish to appoint Glenn Roeder as our next manager it is nice to know we have the support of fellow clubs, and I'd like to thank them and the Premier League for their understanding.
"Contrary to inaccurate newspaper reports that appeared last week saying the situation was in danger of turning into a farce, or was heading for disarray, the whole process has been handled very professionally - and amicably - from start to finish.
"We have enjoyed a positive end to the season and the staff, players and fans of Newcastle United can all look forward to the prospect of European football again next season.
"We also have Alan Shearer's big Testimonial game to look forward to on Thursday night before those players not involved with the World Cup can go away for the summer and recharge their batteries.
"We will make an announcement on the managerial position at Newcastle United for next season at a press conference on Monday".
