Viana wants out
Newcastle United midfielder Hugo Viana has revealed that he wants to quit St James' Park.
The Portuguese star was back in his homeland over the weekend to help with the draw for Euro 2004, and whilst there he confirmed his unhappiness with life in England.
"I do not feel myself either physically or psychologically," he admitted to the local Lisbon press.
"The last two games I have played in have gone very bad."
Viana admitted he wanted another club, before the European Championships - as currently he has little chance of making Luis Felipe Scolari's squad.
"Any club would please me," he continued.
"All that interests me is to play well and feel right.
"To play for Newcastle would be the best option, but as I am not, to leave would satisfy me."
Viana, who has a handful of senior caps, admitted playing for the senior squad was his main aim.
"I am not disappointed at playing for the Under-21s, but the priority is the main team and for that reason I am going to fight," he added.
Viana left his homeland last summer for £8.5 million and much was expected of the the former Sporting starlet, who was dubbed the best young player in Europe.
However, he has never been able to make the breakthrough at Newcastle and even when he has been given a chance, it has never been in his preferred central midfield role.
Sporting have the first option to bring Viana back to Portugal, but reports suggest a move to Spain or France would be the most likely option - should he depart.
Newcastle manager Sir Bobby Robson is unlikely to be happy with Viana's comments, having already reacted angrily to similar remarks made by Laurent Robert and Tresor Lomana Lua Lua this season.
- Just go, we dont need him.
